It's a simple question, but if you are willing to go into an explanation of
Why you like or dislike your name?
Have you always felt this way?
If you dislike it, what name would you prefer?

And for those who wish to be extra helpful :) maybe you can ask your husband/boyfriend, sibling(s), friends, or children the same question!
Feel free to respond multiple times if you get the chance to ask someone else.

I'm super excited to see responses, thankyou in advanse!

I chose my name. My birth name was Valerie, and I liked that name until I started practicing Wicca. My mom wouldn't have anything to do with my religion, or the coven I built, and we slowly estranged each other. She thought I was crazy, I just wanted to share my new experiences. Gradually I started to HATE that name. I didn't want to be associated with my mother, with her family, anything to do with her. So I let my spiritual Guides tell me what name I should have, and they gave me my original name. (The name I was given in my first life). It suits me, even though people constantly can't pronounce it or spell it. $500 later, I legally changed it.

I was called Samantha after the witch on the tv programme Bewitched, and because my mom loved it when it was shortened to Sam. Everyone thought my mom was crazy as it wasnt a very comman name at the time. I prefer to be called Sam or Sammie and am only usually called by my full name when im in trouble lol. My daughter is called Jennifer simply because we liked it and it was the only girls name we could agree on. Hopefully she'll like it when she grows up!

My name is Amanda and I graduated with 15 Amandas. I hated that with a passion. My husbands name is Randy and he hates it because he was named after Randy Travis the Country singer and he hates country. I named my daughter Alice Rose after Alice Cullen and Rosalie Hale from the Twilight movies and so far she won't answer to anything other then Alice Rose. I've tried Ally AliRose etc and she doesn't answer to them so I'm gonna assume she likes her name too :P

I think your name is lovely! And oddly enough I have to spell my name too! Some assume it's Lora so I just spell it all the time, with every name there is variant spellings so I think it's just polite to spell it for people.
Even Jane could be Jayne so spelling is helpful :)

I did not like my name when I was little (Lorraine, go by Lorra) because I always thought Lorraine was too old lady, lol, but now I like it because it's kinda classic and there really aren't very many people my age that have it and I like that. It's not popular without being weird. I also love Lorra too because it's spelled different and no, I do not get tired of having to spell my "simple" name for people, I'm used to it, so I just say "Lorra, L-O-R-R-A" I don't even wait for them ask or start writing it out :)

I hated my name when I was young, mainly because of the spelling...(Gillian, but its pronounced Jillian). I also prefered to be called Gill instead of Gillian. Once I got into high school I started to go by Gillian. I had a very unique name, I didn't know anyone else with my spelling (other than the lady from X-files). There was another Jillian in my school, but obviously her was spelled as I typed it. My senior soc. teacher had a little girl after the other Jillian and I graduated and told me they chose to name her Jillian as well...spelled as typed.
I hate my middle name which is Nicole, mainly because it's just so common, but it flows nicely and that's all that matter I guess.
My husband doesn't care either way about his name. I don't think any guys really do!

I haven't always been fond of my name, Jackie-Rae. I thought it sounded old. I really hate it when people call me Jacqueline! It's just Jackie. My first name is after Jackie Gleason from the Hunny Mooners. My middle name or second part of my first name is after my Dads middle name, Ray, which I always liked.

I really think you grow into your name. I can't imagine being anything other than Jackie-Rae. I'll bet my life would different if I was a Lauren or something.

My parents wanted to name me Penny Candy! WTF! I probably would have ended up a stripper or something!

I was named after my Great Aunt and she was named after her parents (my Great grandparents). My Great grandmother's middle name was May and my Great grandfather didn't have a middle name but his first name was Benjamin and everyone called him Ben, so my grandmother and other family members started to assume that they stuck their names together to come up with Mabyn. Besides my Great aunt, I've never met another Mabyn. I've always liked my name because it was different even though it's always gotten misspelled and mispronounced. My sister on the other hand has a different name also (Treeva) and she's always hated her name because it was different. That's our personalities though...I always like to stand out and do my own thing and she would rather blend in with the crowd. I've always liked my name and can't remember a time when I didn't and most people I've come across tell me they think I have a really pretty name. Now, whether they really think that or not, I'll never know but most people say "Well, isn' that different! What a pretty name!" When it came to naming my daughter, I wanted a name that was different enough that I didn't know anyone else by that name but not so different that she got asked all the time how you pronounce it (like I got asked!) and me and my husband decided on the name Mya. After she was born though it seemed like I kept hearing that name pop up everywhere and now it seems more common which bums me out a little but what can you do...I hope she grows up to like her name because I think it's so pretty.

Hmm I kind of like my name, but it depends. It's fairly unique, ive maybe ran into 3 or 4 people in my life with my name. Its pretty to look at.

BUT

It's hard to pronounce properly over the phone - I am SOO often mistaken as Stephanie or Christy. And I dont like that it ends in a "y" - sounds childish.

I dont know what Id re-name myself. One of my favorite names is Adelaide, though I dont think I`d suit it.

My fiancees name is Douglas. He says he hates his name, mostly because he is 24 and the youngest person who shares his name is pushing 50. he also likes it because of this, as he tends to get noticed, and employers think he;s older and therefore more mature than his real age.

I have always not quite hated, but disliked my name, purely because it is so common. It was the 2nd most common girls name my birth year, and it is annoying when you're constantly hearing your name called in hallways and 9 out of 10 times it's not you. Also annoying that my teacher was able to make a solid row of Jessica's (5 of us!) in one of my math classes. Of course, on the other end of the spectrum, you get poor kids with odd names that, unless they are the coolest kid in their class, they WILL get picked on for it. So my advise would be to look up the most recent list of top ten baby names for the sex of the baby, then just AVOID those names :) They'll be plenty of others without being too freaky.

I'm planning on telling him I want to name her Maylee right after birthing her in hopes that he will look into my bloodshot eyes and say "OK". It's such a cute name that I think will suit a little clone of my husband very well. I say clone because my step daughter looks exactly like him so I expect any of mine to look just like him as well.

Yes and no. My full name is Kimberly. When I tell someone my full name(or they read it off of some sort of paperwork) they often ask me what I prefer to be called and I'm stumped to this day. When I introduce myself as Kimi people will often times miss hear me and start calling me Cammy or Kenny. When a stranger calls me Kimi it feels quite invasive for some reason and I also don't like the way men sound in general when they say Kimi. Thankfully my husband just calls me Babe. Kim just sounds so boring and when I'm called Kimberly it makes me feel like I'm in some sort of trouble since my mom had always called me Kimberly if I was about to be interigated for something as a child. I had a co'worker decide to call me Berly at one point, it made me feel a bit masculine but it was refreshing. I gues I don't really like my name since I'm not compleatly set on a specific variation of it. Perhaps I will one day seek counsling on the matter.
I should also mention that my mom overlooked the fact that we would have rymeing names when she named my third brother Timothy. Tim and Kim. Nice.

I wasn't too thrilled with it the first few years of school - when I knew a LOT of girls with my name, but spelled the traditional Carrie. There was a time in music class in about 3rd grade when we had to make up a rhyme for our name that described our personality - no personality traits start with K! Once I really learned the story of how my parents picked my name, Keri lotion and my parents' favored soap opera character at the time, I thought I was unique - then in middle and high school a bunch of other Keri-s burst on to the scene but I knew my name had a story and wasn't "just a name" so I came to love my name. I have no doubt everyone in my family likes their name - some of them have odd or oddly spelled middle names, but that like those too. I'm pretty sure my husband likes HIS name, since we named our little boy "after" him (as well as my husband's father and grandfather, bull all of them have different middle names so no one's a Jr.)

I mostly wanted to see how women liked or disliked common or unique names. And I'm finding that the vast majority like their names by adulthood, but didn't care for some part of it as a child.
Just want to know if.... will hate her name just cuz it's unique, or if she will love it because it's special to us and we love it.

I am kind of on the inbetween mark of liking my name or not. My name does not have a special meaning in my family, it was just a name that my mom pulled out of thin air. She said that the other names she had picked no one in the family liked. She had Sabrina or Kasandra picked out and my grandmother told her they sounded like a witchs name... So out of desperation She picked Julie Marie... ( plain and simple) Except when you work in a call center and you answer your phone with Thank You for calling this is Julie... Most people hear it as Shirley, Jody,Joey, Julia, Judy... close friends call me Jules (Julez) which I really like, but it is not really professional sounding. My Daughter ( 10) is going thru the whole mom why did you name me this , or Mom why did you spell my name like this... Her name is Kaitlin Janelle.... Kaitlin is from both her grandmothers... Katherine and Laura ( Closest I could get) and Janelle is a cousins name.
The reason I Spelled it Kaitlin and not with a Y in it is because I felt that y should be at the end of a word and not in the middle. My sister has a story behind her name as well.

She is 17 years younger than I am.. My mother married my step father who is Italian and they wanted a name that is spelled the same in English as it was in Italian... They went with Anna .. They wanted Lisa for the middle name 2 months before my sister was born my step fathers favorite grandmother passed away in a house explosion her name was Maria they decided that they were going to use Maria instead of Lisa.... My mom was worried about using Maria becase it was so similar to my middle name ( Marie). At 17 that was fine with me... Matter of fact I said to my mom " It's fine with me, She can even have Marie .. I'll pick out a different name." Mom said no she said Maria was going to be her middle name. I now thing that it is cool though... both of my moms kids have Plain names but are similar.

It seems like lots of people are in this boat - I like my name, but never used to. My name is Karly which wasn't overly popular when I was younger so I always hated being the only one. I also have a last name that's really hard to pronounce and when you're young in school that seems to be a big worry often times lol. Now I like my name although I will say that some people seem to judge me based on it. I have heard quite a few times that people who don't know me yet, expect me to be dumb or ditzy because of my first name. I just remind myself it could always be worse lol

I had other kids laugh at my name when I was younger because of it being a males name. No one ever believed it was unisex but as I got older I learned to deal with the ridicule and now it doesn't bother me. I tend to see more females with the name Jamie then I do males.

Ok this is my story, here goes... I go by Chrissy but my birth name is Christine, named after my mother. When I was a kid that was never-endlessly confusing to friends & family cos we never knew who they were referring to unless they specified by calling us big & little Christine or Christine Snr or Jnr which i thought was totally ridiculous cos i just wanted to be called one name without any confusion. I didnt like my name much anyway when i was young bcos it sounded plain & boring & way too formal. when i was 15 a friend called me Chrissy once & it stayed with me ever since. i liked it that much from then on i insisted everyone call me that & always introduce myself to people as Chrissy. I thought it was so much better cos it sounded more easy-going, bubbly & fun & suited my personality way more. Dont get me wrong, im proud of my real name its a good strong normal name, but i just think Chrissy suits me alot better & stops the confusion for everyone. My mum still calls me by my real name tho, but it would sound weird to me if she didnt!!
My mum was single when she had me & named me Christine Brown after both her names, then a couple of years later my mum re-married & we both got my stepfathers (polish) last name which was Cieplikiewicz, pronouced shep-lee-kev-ish. yeah thats right. no-one could say or spell it to save themself. So 2 years later, mum & dad changed it to a made up but still polish sounding name, Kovic.
So then we all became Kovic which ive always been very proud of, which is pronouced EXACTLY the way it looks, but do you think anyone could ever say or spell that either???? No way. no-one ever gets it right!!!! And that has been my name ever since & now the only reason my last name will change is when i get married in december to become Davis which im more than happy with!!

I'm fine with my name now, but I still think it is over done in my family one way or another. My name is Nicole Marie. And it seems that out of my grandmothers nine children and 70 something grandchildren that at least 1 one of her children have a Nicole or a Marie somewhere in there separate family's. Then there was school were there was always another Nicole and everyone was always talking to her. My mom says she was going to name me Tiffany Elaine but when I was born I didn't look like a Tiffany. So she had to come up with a name last minute and her sister had two daughters with the middle names of Nicole and Marie and she really liked them so that is what she named me.

P.S. I'm not really a Tiffany so I guess she was right. Oh and I despise being called Nicky I feel like every Nicky I have ever met is crazy.
