My son Bailey just turned One! I am pregnant with our 2nd baby who will be due in the end of October, which will make Bailey just over one and a half. Ive been trying to decide weather or not I need to buy another cot, or if I should just buy a single bed for Bailey. What do you think ?

My daugter was 14 moths when she transitioned. She was starting to climb out of her crib.

My son is 18 moths now. Now way would he be able to be out of his crib.

I think it really depends on your child. You will know the right desicion.

My daughter has been in a toddler bed (with the short side rails at the top) since she could walk at 10 months old. She just has always been afraid of her crib! so we put her in the toddler bed and she loves the freedom!

No not at all my son had his at one because he crawled out of his crib very early( like 7 months and he fell and bummed his head:(  while I was in the shower and my hubby was sleeping and new to listen for him he just had some toys in it., with it as low as the mattress could go, and as high has the railings would go) and mommy let him sleep w/ her and daddy for a while..but i figured we'd give it a shot, but he was sooo excited to get his own big boy bed that they're was no issues besides me missing his cuddles:)

My daughter was 17 months when we had Vanessa. We bought her a toddler bed and got her a Backyardigan sheet set...she loves them. We started off with nap time in the big girl bed when she was about 14 months and by the time her baby sister was born, she knew that she slept in the big girl bed. It also helps with the "You're a big girl/boy now" thing. The more comfortable they are with being, the easier it is bringing a new baby home. Instead of being jelious all the time, he will know that he is the big brother and will be so proud!

I think that any age over about 1 is okay, make sure you move him at least a month before the baby arrives so that the baby doesnt "take" his bed.  i got a bed that has height adjustment, so he was only about 3 inches off the floor so he couldnt hurt himself and he could get in and out, a door barrier is a good idea if he gets out of his room.  when you bring the crib back out for the baby, make it look different by using new sheets and toys that are different to his, so he doesnt think it is still his.

My son Lane was put into a big boy bed at about 19-20 months. It took a couple of nights of work to keep him in the bed when it was bed time but he really wanted it and we waited to take down the crib until he stayed in the big boy bed. We just told him if he didn't want to stay in the bed we would put him back into the crib, and he didn't want anything to do with the crib anymore... hope this helps, take care. Heidi

I had my second baby when my first child was 17 months old. Part of me making it exciting for my 17 month old was letting her help me make her a big girl room, with a big girl bed.  That made it an easier transition for her into being a big sister, and because she was getting a new room and bed ( and title of big sister) she didn't mind that her crib was going to the baby. Happy to report that they are now 5 and 3 and a half and the best of friends.  Hope it works out for you and congrats.

my kids are 18 months apart and i was able to successfully pass my nursery down to my youngest in time. i had my son in his new "BIG BOY ROOM" a few months before my daughter was born. it went very well. i couldnt have asked for a better transition. you can do it!!!!! just try to make it seem like the most fantastic thing in the world that he is big enough for a new bed and all should go well.... good luck!!!!!!

Nope, it really depends on how comitted you are to getting up when he does. Mine is 15 months and he busted his crib banging it against the wall! It became a death trap. When we went to dis assemble it, it pretty much collapsed! I bought him a toddler spiderman bed that fit the crib mattress with plastic side rails and he sleeps in it just fine at night. We put a dimmer switch on his light so it's not TOO dark so if he needs to get out of bed he can see adn wont fall. Naps are the hardest though...he usually gets up and plays. So I keep the pack n play at hand for REALLY CRABBY DAYS! When he wont nap but should. I run a daycare too, so this should work for ya! GOODLUCK!

My son was just over a year when I got him his own toddler bed. He had a lil race car bed and he did great! I put a baby gate at the door though so when it was bedtime....he couldn't just walk out.....and also helps if he were to wake up in the middle of the night...then you don't have to worry about them walking sleepy and hurting themselves. I would say totally go for it! :D Good luck! :D

My little girl was nearly 1 and a half when I fell pregnant with our 2nd and I moved her into a toddler bed after a few weeks of finding out.

She acted up at first, by getting outa bed alot and not wanting to stay in it but after about 3months she was fine with it, she loves getting ready to go to bed.

The sooner you introduce the bed the easier it will be for both you and your son. If you wait til last min or til after the baby had been born your son could feel pushed out, and also the last thing you need after having a baby, is a toddler having tantrums cos he is unhapy being in a bed. It will alot easier to start it now you just need alot of paitence :D

my mom had to put my older brother in a toddler bed when he was 9 months old.. he kept climbing out of his crib and she was scared he would hurt himself one day... so any age is fine as long as you think they're ready.

well we put my daughter in a big girl bed when we moved in to our new place.... that was about 7 months ago. she will be 3 next month.... But we have her in a captin's bed... its not a toddler bed.... at first she couldent get down so it was like a crib felling to her her..... he might be ready... does he talk?? Have you gone to look at beds and see what he says about it?

I new that my daughter was going in to a big gir bed when we moved just wasnt for sure when that might be... then If it was going to be sooner then i was going to put her crib in the new room and start off that way... that way she got used to the new house first....

well when we did move for about the first week i have to go and lay with her for her to go to sleep! in your case your not moving so the house is till the same... good luck!!!

My sons are exactly one year apart. They share the same birthday. So when my youngest was in the bassinet we were putting my oldest in a toddler bed to get him use to it before we put his new baby brother in the crib. It didn't take long for him to get use to the toddler bed it grows into a twin bed so it grows with him. I love it! But Isaiah would crawl into the crib and sleep with his little brother so we had to be careful about that. They are now 21 and 9 months old and we are just starting to talk about when to move our youngest into a toddler bed. Good Luck and Congrats!

i think it depends on the child when he or she is ready. My friends tried to put there son in a bed at 16 months and he would cry, but i put my daughter in a bed at around 11 months when she started trying to climb out of her cot. I just bought her a low bed and put her old cot matress on the floor so if she did fall out she had something soft to land on.

i don't think it is to early  put railings on the side of a normal bed or there are the toddler ones it will save money on a second cot that will be no use to u in the long run.

Both of my boys went in a single bed between 18months and 2yrs due to the fact they are tall like their dad, So no i don't think he's too young. Maybe think about a toddler bed if your not sure as these are low down. It'll make him feel like a big boy

We moved our son out of the crib on his 1st birthday. I think this is a good age because it gets them use to the bed early (especially before they can get their door open). I say definitely start sooner rather than later so he'll be comfortable when the baby comes. For some kids it takes awhile to get use to.

My oldest, Drew, went to the big bed at 17 months -- one month before Alex came along.  I started with bedtime only and then kept him in the crib at naptime until he got the hang of the bed and what it was for.

Alex hit the bed a little later--22 months; each kid's personality is different.  Alex was way to active to do it earlier -- I tried.  We had him in the crib during the day and in his bed at night.  Going only to the bed became necessary when our nephew stayed the night and Alex got mad that he couldn't even do naps in the crib then.  The key is to do the complete transition before the baby comes so they get used to the idea that "The crib is for Baby and I'm a big kid now!"

Our third son, Gavin, now takes naps in the crib and sleeps in our room at night.  Alex knows it is "Gabin baby crib."   He loves his bed and actually shares a room with Drew (also still in a toddler bed).  The rails definitely help; Alex is usually right up against them as it gives him a more cozy feeling.  They usually play out of bed and then crawl back in when they get drowsy.  Sometimes they trade beds, too -- but that goes with sharing a room.

Jye was 13 months when it was time with him, I would but him to bed in his cot and he would scream so i went out and brought a toddler bed and ever since he has slept with no problems, you would know when it is ready for him, even buy one and try it out before bub is born so you know! may time time or little time at all.. i wish you all the best

No I dont think its to yound. My daughter was in a "big girl bed" when she was 18mo. My biys are 20months apart and I wanted him to be in a big bed by the time my younger son was about 4 mo. Well.......as soon as I put the "big boy bed" up (before my other son was born) he wanted to go in that bed. So he was about 17-18mo when he got out of his crib. Its funny now b/c he will be 2 at the end of the month and i couldnt imagine him being in a crib and its so cute b/c crib equals baby to him :) Good Luck!! Im sure he'lllo ve it. Do something special for the transition. It may be hard at first but if you make him feel like this is something sooo special for him than maybe it might be easier.

Not at all. Jacob was in a twin bed at 15 months and never looked back! Ethan was born right after Jacob turned 2 and I was glad I did it that way. It gave Jacob time to adjust to his bed before Ethan and I didn't have to worry about adjusting him to his bed during sleepless newborn nights.

Not at all. My Daugther was that age when she began sleeping in her Day Bed w/ safety rail...Also, depends what your having...if your thinking of saving money and your having another boy....do bunk beds with a trundle. Just an idea.

Bailey should be okay in a toddler bed. My son went in one around a 14 months. He fell out of it once or twice, but soon got the hang of it. They do make side rails though for beds that you can put up to prevent that from happening. It's a good idea!

Oh no, I had my daughter in a big girl bed once she was able to crawl out of her crib. I want to say she was about the same age. We figured to get her use to a big bed now, rather than have her fall out of the crib and hurt herself. We did put up one of those guards to keep her from rolling off the bed.

I also put up a baby gate at the door so I could leave the door open which she liked
