What should a doctor do and look for at a four month check up? I want to know cause my sons doctor at all of his check ups just looks at him without checking his weight and pushes us out the door. I have to ask him to weight my son. I am taking him on Wed. to his four month check up and want to know what to get him to do other then the needles.

As for babies getting fussy if you hold them...that usually isn't the issue, the reason you shouldn't hold your baby while they get their shots is because of the risk of getting you stuck by the needle and then the vaccine is wasted because it is then contaminated and can't be given to the baby. You should be able to hold him after the vaccine is administered.

If you can't find another doctor, continue to ask him to weigh and measure your son, make it a point to hold your baby right after his shots and if he says anything to you about it, tell him to back off...your baby, you can decide if you want to hold him or not. Just look at the doctor and say you want to hold your son, if he says not to, do it anyway. I am usually a firm believer in listening to Doctor's advice since I work for a doctor and know that most of the time they tell you what you need to know, but not being able to hold your son until 10 min. after he has his shots is just rediculous.

My daughter gets weighed by the MA and gets her shots by the MA. I fill out a paper about her milestones when i get there. Her doctor just looks at her, checks her heart, lungs, mouth, nappy area, head, eyes, everything... and "plays" with her (actually testing to see how she responds to things) and asks me questions as he's doing this. Then he asks if I have questions, concerns or want to brag about anything cool she does (he is funny). Then he says "ok, well she's perfect. See you next time." and we are on our way. It's wierd that you have to ask him to weigh your son...the doctor doesn't seem to be too concerned with checking out everything...and not letting you hold your son? that's just not cool. i got to hold Kylie right after the shots were done...right after. The MA just put her bandaids on and told me to scoop her up....she stopped crying by the time we got to the parking lot...I believe it's because she was comforted. Maybe you should consider taking your son to another doctor. If I was having that experience, I would find someone else.

i have been taking him to a place that will weight him for me just so i know he is gaining. his doctor will not even let me or his dad hold him when he gets his needles. he said that it will make him fussy if you do. but it was so had to not hold him at his two month needles. he cried and i did too cause i could not hold him and let him know it was ok. i had to wait ten min after till i could. i really am not looking forward to going this week for his four month ones cause of how his doctor is but we can't find another doctor where we live.

It should be checked everytime. He may not check it but a nurse should be checking it.How do you know if your child is gaining weight?

should he of done that at his two month as well cause all he did was give him his shots and send us out the door. he would not even check his weight. I had to get a public health nurse to do that.

My ped checks weight and head size, then looks them over and gives them the shots they need.
