hey,
i have a 4 month old baby boy who sleeps 8-10 hours a night, but when it comes to nap time he will only sleep for 30-60minutes and that is with quite a struggle...(i have to rock him, sing to him, hold him etc) (but at night he falls asleep on his own) he seems to be exhausted after an hour or so of being up and playing, but then won't sleep! and it's not like he is a happy boy with little sleep, he is grumpy!! any suggestions are great thank you

I know what you're going through. My boyfriend wishes our son slept through the night but he spends more time awake and takes tons of short naps throughout the day. I blame myself for that because I work 12 midnight to 8 am and have had this job since I was 3 months pregnant with him, so he was very used to mommy's sleep schedule. He was a preemie, so when he first came home, all he did was sleep. Now, and this may be part of your problem too, as his senses become more active he's afraid he'll miss something going on around him. He does a lot of screaming because he gets over-tired and it takes a lot to get him to sleep. Then, when he finally succumbs to it, it never seems to last long. What I've been doing lately is just let him cry himself to sleep. As hard and annoying it is to listen to, he seems the most rested even if it was only a 10 - 20 minute nap.

i am thankful that he sleeps the night, i remind myself of that all the time, but it's still so tiring having a cranky baby because he won't sleep during the day, and he needs his sleep..i also do have a bouncy chair and a swing(which he does sleep in), but i don't want to get him in the habit of sleeping in them, as he will rely on them to fall asleep which may cause more problems for night time...i don't know! i've tried keeping him up all morning and jsut putting him down in the afternoon but his nap in the afternoon only lasted 45 minutes...then he cuddled with me for 2hours....

I agree with Stephanie. Be thankful that he is sleeping through the night! f he sleeps too much during the day, I can guarantee you won't get him to sleep through the night. A bouncing chair will work wonders cause it will tire him out.
