You need to go to your local office. Chances are, you might all have to apply as a family. They look into your income and expenses and determine whether or not THEY think you need it, lol. It's a real pain.

We have just registered out baby with medicare, you can either take in the babys birth certificate or the letter you had from the doctor or hospital after you had your baby. We had a home birth so we got a letter off the doctor when our baby was 15 days old. My husband just went in with the forms and went straight through. Hope this helps

I'm not sure about medicare, I know that medicaid can be applied for in most states. Medicare usually requires a medical reason to apply for, but it depends on some state liimits. My oldest was on medicaid until a year and I just didn't renew, and my newborn will have it as well. You can call your local department of family services for more information on the medicaid program, and maybe medicare too.
