Does labour and delivery really happen faster second time round?

Hi there,

I'm a mom of one with number two on the way( I'm due Sept 21st, so not for awhile ) and was wondering if labour and delivery really does happen quicker the second time round? I have heard from other moms that this is true, but would like to hear from more than just a few moms for a better idea of what to expect ( I know that every delivery is different, but still I'm curious :)

For me it did. I was induced both times as well. First time was FOREVER, it seemed lol about 16-18 hours, and the 2nd time just around 12 hours. Which is VERY good for inductions. But def, second time was MUCH easier than the first! Gooooood luck!!

yes my second came out faster and more easily than the first but every pregnancy is different

I have 3 children and each labour was quicker and easier . #1 was 8 hours #2 was 5 hours #3 was 2 hours . I won't be having any more because I am too scared that I will give birth in public.

It was quicker for me too the second time round

my first daughter I was induced and went through the night the whole delivery was fast I had her in 45 mins

my second daughter was also induced but I laboured for 5 hrs & delivered her in about 20 mins

I'd ask your mum sometimes you can tell which way you'll go I know my mum had my brother in 4 hrs and me in an hour lol we don't hang around get in done and home good luck with baby number two x

mine was! well, in some ways lol! i had been having what i thought were braxton hicks with my oldest from the time i had a pelvic check that morning and was told i was 3cm... that was like 9am... around 4ish pm i realized they were becoming regular, but far apart so i wasnt worried, they werent hurting so i thought it was braxton hicks still....

at about 830pm i called the on call dr at the hospital to see if i should come in (still not painful, but coming every 6 min)... she said if i was having real contractions they would take my breath away and that it wasnt time.... so i took a shower and went to bed... my mom woke me up at 10 saying i had been moaning/crying out in my sleep every 5 min on the dot for over an hour, and that we WERE going in! so i woke up and tried to pack my bag and BOOM the pain hit LOL! got to the hospital at 11, water broke in the parking lot, was in my l&d room with epidural by 1130, got some fitful sleep and my son was born @ 630am.... i was told my active labor was only 4 hours, though i think it should have started from when my water broke which would be more like 7-8...

ANYWAYS i was induced with my daughter, so the process took longer... i started my pitocin @ 5am, by 3pm i wasnt progressing and was so uncomfy from being in bed they gave me stadol (contractions werent hurting) but i was stuck @ 3 and didnt want an epidural yet... finally around between 5-6 i went from 3 to 4 cm, then over the next 2 hours i dilated another cm.... i hit 6 cm, then had a shift change and the new nurse came in -- i had epidural around 630 pm bc contractions had started to hurt and i was progressing slowly but surely..... so the shift change happened @ about 745 one nurse checked and i was 6/6.5.... 20 min later they checked me and i was 10... i pushed for 8 min (compared to 45 the first time around) and my labor was sooo peaceful and serene and amazing.... my mom literaly almost missed it bc i had sent her home with my son.... but it was the most amazing experience.... so even tho #2 took longer, once my labor actually got started it went REALLY fast!

For me it was quicker. 6ish hours with my 1st and maximum of 2 with my 2nd. I'm pregnant with my 3rd and i am worried how quick this one may be! lol! But i guess it depends on how active you are with this pregnancy and how close the children are in age. My kids are 21months apart and i walked heaps with my second and with my 1st i worked until 35weeks. It also depends on how your 1st albour and delivery went!

my second was longer and harder so no its not true every baby is different just like every pregnancy and labor are different

My daughter was natural and was 4 hours of labor total, so I had the same fear with my second that you do. But I was induced 2 weeks early the second time around. Instead I was in labor for almost 14 hours when I got to the hospital the second time and was already dialated 1 cm less then when I went in with my daughter. After my water broke it was a matter of 2 hours later and my son was born. So as far as timeline from water breaking it wasn't any quicker but as far as dialating process it was so much longer the second time!!!

My first was 8.5hours start to finish, my second was 2 hours start to finish. I was induced both times but with my first i went in at 33weeks and was in labor for 4 days and they kept stopping it so if they didn't it might have only been 1 day...who knows. Anyways, my second was faster but again i was induced both times.

In my case it did. I was in the hospital laboring for ten and a half hours my first time and I labored 4 hours this time around. Thank goodness!! But that's just me I don't know about everyone else.
