Does "Your Baby Can Read" work?

I always see the commercial for this and want to know if anyone has it and if it works. My son is 18 months and is very smart. I would love to know if this works so we can get it and get him reading! It looks interesting...but at the same time I'm just not to sure about it.

Yes... I have it. It is a good program. I have a 9 month old and so far it is a joke with children this age. The websites and all had me really convinced. Overall, it is VERY time consuming, you have to be a stay at home mom to do this (or have someone dedicated to doing it, which is highly unlikely), it has to be repeated all throughout the day. I am a stay at home mom, and I tried, actually started when she was 3 months old... I don't know what I was thinking, but the program said to start that early. Second, the program comes with great learning books, learning cards but you have to be persistent on sitting your child down in front of the tv to watch the learning dvds.... or the program is useless. My problem is that it is IMPOSSIBLE for your little one to sit still and focus on you repeating flash card after flash card (no matter how "fun" you make it) kids want to run around and they are NOT interested. Another is that my daughter doesn't watch or pay attention to the tv. And quite frankly, that's a good thing, I don't want to teach my daughter to sit in front of the tv numerous times a day, for 30 mins straight each time, it is impossible. I have come to the conclusion that this is a great program, great learning tools. I do think that this program will benefit my daughter when she is going into pre-k. But to put this program to good use instead of wasting the money I spent, when she is old enough to talk and interact, she will be old enough then that instead of putting on cartoons I can pop in the dvds and she can actually understand what they are saying, because she'd be talking pretty well by then. I also have the idea of taking the great flash cards and posting them around the house, naming the things around the house like "tv", "chair", "door" etc... thought that would be a good way to not have completely wasted our money... but you could make your own flashcards! Overall, the ages this program is geared toward is unrealistic, but when the children are 3 and 4 I think the program could assist the learning our children would be learning from school. FYI in the infomercial it advertizes for 19.99 and when you call to order it the 19.99 is just for the trial 30 days, the actual program costs $295, if I could go back I would not have wasted our hard earned money. Honestly, from mom to mom, save your money, it is not worth it. I hope my input helped you out... if you're curious about anything else or the products it comes with, let me know! :)
