Went for 1st ultrasound today, they estimated I should be 10.5 weeks but the baby measured at 7.5 weeks and saw no heartbeat ( maybe b/c of baby's position?) and the dr. said sometimes you cant' pick up on a heartbeat until 10 weeks??? we figured if they go by the first day of my last cycle for a due date assuming I got pregnant the middle to end of march, I would be about 10.5 weeks along but if I didn't get pregnant until the 1st or even second week of april, ( 1 week before i'd be due for my next cycle) then the ultrasound should be accurarte and we're only 7.5 weeks, We go back in 1 week for another u/s to make sure the baby is growing. Anyone experience this situation before? Anyone not hear or see a heartbeat at 7.5-8 weeks? We saw and heard the heartbeat of our daughter at 8 weeks so not sure how to feel about this......

I can't help you with the heartbeat advice I'm not realy sure what to think but when I went for my 18 week ultrasound ( I was too sick to go to any earlier one) my baby measured 14 weeks, so my dates were way off. she was born true to those dates they gave me, so dates aren't always right. I'd stick with the date that they have measured you at. Babies don't differ much in size until the end. Good luck

u should be able to see the heartbeat at 8 weeks, and if they cant see it they may do an internal ultrasound which is put inside the vagina and usually that can be detected at 6 weeks. i had an ultrasound at 3 weeks because my urine test showed up positive and they thought i was ectopic but it was just to early to tell so i went back at 6 weeks and they found the heartbeat so try not to worry. I also am due in 2 and a bit months and every ultrasound ive been to ive been a week and a bit behind my due date so they pushed it back every time. Good luck.

i didint have my first scan until 16 weeks cause they said i was 4 weeks less than i was cause they couldnt hear a heart beat at what would have been just over 11 weeks. dont worry yourself until you find out for certain.

haha yes... for some reason the doctors miscalculated my last cycle and i was first told that my due date was sept 14.. which turns out it is actually the 20th.. it was kinda confusing.. oh and with the heartbeat... we didnt hear the heartbeat until i was 10 weeks along... so the sono is probably right in sayin how far along you are

I dont want to scare you or anything, but I had a similar situation with my first pregnancy.

I went for my u/s at 10 weeks but they couldnt find a heartbeat, baby only measured 7weeks 6days. As the docs called it "early fetal demise" so I had to have a D & C.

I had no bleeding or pain in the 2 weeks that I thort my baby was alive.

They didnt know why I misscarried, it was just one of those things that happen for a reason.

I hope all gos well for you hun.

Good luck =D

sometimes it's hard to find a heartbeat that early... my daughter measured at 8 weeks for my first ultrasound ... but my uterus was at 12 weeks... silly enough but my doc ended up saying... ya just have a big uterus! don't sweat it too much!

Also, confused about the u/s & the baby actually looking like a baby as my daughter at 8 weeks looked like a blob w/ a hearbeat, if I'm only 7.5 weeks and not 10.5, why is the baby so developed? I was told, any pregnancy after your 1st, the baby can develope and grow faster, not sure if I believe that or not. Just trying to think possitive, calling around for second opinion and seeing what happens next monday at next u/s.

Thank you everyone for your responses, it really helps to hear from other people being so up in the air, praying that its just b/c I got pregnant 2 weeks later than expected which is very possible. It just bohters me to not see a heartbeat when we got to see it at 8 weeks w/ the first pregnancy, i don't know, my head is spinning, and i don't know what to think, there is def a baby in there, thats not the issue, its just that its measuring at 3 weeks earlier than we expected.

Actually ultrasounds arent common with some insurance until about week 20, so you shouldnt worry.

I didn't have my 1st ultrasound with my son until 20 wks (I know, I know, but I had no insurance and wasn't aware Medicaid was retro-active), but I just had my first one with this one. they said they weren't sure exactly how far along I am (comforting, right??) but *I* know I am about 10 wks cos my husband and I only made love once at the end of march!!

I'm not sure really what to say. I know that my first ultrasound was at 11 weeks.. and I was once told that I was pregnant again by a Dr. I started having really bad stomach pains and they thought I was having a tubal pregnancy so I had to go in right away. They did an Ultrasound and they said they didn't see anything so they wanted to do some blood work and have me go back in, in 48 hours to see how my hormones are changing. Within an hour they called me and told that I wasn't even pregnant. Somehow Someway they got the test results all mixed up. Thats the only experience I ever had with never seeing a heartbeat.. I hope all is well with your baby and you find out the answer that you are looking for.. Good Luck and God Bless

I wouldn't worry. In the doctors office they couldn't pick up the heartbeat at 13 weeks so they sent me for an ultrasound a week later and everything was fine.
