My son is almost two and does the same thing some days. It's just a phase. His uncle, who is our family doctor, says it is completely normal. As long as he eats his other meals, we don't force him to eat anything. I find that by dinnertime my son's teeth are usually sore as he's cutting his molars and that probably plays a big part in his loss of appetite

I have a similar problem with my 21mth old son. My aunty works for child & youth health and said recent studies have shown that trying to get your children to eat when they don't want to, even with things like "one last mouthful" has direct repercussions with obesity & other eating disorders later in life! She also said that little kids can't ignore when their body is telling them they're hungry, and they also can't eat for the sake of it.

I guess maybe they're just at the age where they're deciding what they do or don't like & realising that some things are yummier then others. Because my son refuses help to eat I have found that i get a better result at dinner if the meal is easy onto a spoon & wont fall off before his mouth, like risottos, couscous, dahls, etc. I'm also not afraid to give him the same thing every night if he really likes it.

Like louise has said above, they wont let themselves starve & I'm sure it's just a faze that they all go through at some time or other....just go with the flow.

happy eating!
