Feeding and sleeping patterns, Help

my 2 1/2 week old is sleeping longer and going longer for a feeds throughout the day and shorter at night. I'm wondering if he will work it out on his own to sleep longer at night and shorter in the day or do i need to try and teach him? and if i do need to teach him how????

I'm not getting much sleep at the moment and becoming exhusted already, I've tried keeping him in the light during the day so he realises its day time, but it doesnt seem to work. Should i be making sure he doesnt go any longer then 4 hours for a feed during the day or not sleeping longer than 3 hours in the day?

please help.

My baby is 8 weeks now, and I remember that 2 week point. I feel your pain! However, your LO will find a pattern and get into it, but it does take time. At about 2-3 weeks, they go through a growth spurt and this will cause less sleep for you. It's usually only a few days though and will work it's way out as well. You can wake him up at the 3 hour mark during the day. I wouldn't offer to feed him unless he is asking you to though. You may find it tough to wake him up. We did do this with out little guy too, and it did help. Feeding on demand is an awesome thing, as long as he is gaining weight properly. Babies who do this tend to be a lot happier and know more about eating what they need when hungry as they get older. Good luck!

My baby had her days and nights mixed up for about the first month and a half. I fed her on demand and was exhausted for the first few weeks, but she gradually got into a routine on her own. It just takes time, they figure it out, you just have to hang in there in the meantime. Now she is three months old and sleeps all through the night, she does great. We co-sleep with her too and that seems to really help.

Try to feed him every three hours during the day. When you get up to feed him at night keep the room dark and quiet. He will figure it out soon enough.
