My baby girl will be 6 months old tomorrow! :) (how time flies!) But shes been eating baby food since she was 3 months, shes on stage 2 jar food. I want to start giving her finger foods but im not sure exactly what she can have yet. I tried the gerber teething cookies, but she breaks them off in her mouth and im so afraid shes going to choke on them!
Any ideas of what I could give her to chew on that wont break off in her mouth? She has no teeth yet... Thanks!

gerber little crunchies are good. they fit in their little hands and get soft as soon as they get wet.

Just sit with her and watch closely. Babies have an excellent gag reflex, and if they swallow something too big they tend to just gag it back up rather quickly. You could just start by blending it or mashing it with lots of soft chunks in it and seeing how baby does with that at first. Babies don't need teeth to chew soft stuff. Their gums do rather well. It's always nerve wracking trying the next stage of foods with your baby, but trust me, having done this twice now, babies are very adept at it and they tend to adapt quickly to new foods and textures. If you can squish it in your fingers, baby can squish it with her gums.

im so afraid to give her anything she has to "chew or mash" just because of her having no teeth. But id love to give her all those foods you both listed. I think ill give some if it a try though. just makes me so nervous! :/

Soft fruit and steamed veggies are always great. Try banana chunks, avocado, chunks of cooked potatoes and sweet potatoes, steamed broccoli, carrots, beans, etc. Just make sure they are able to be mushed up in your fingers and baby will do fine mashing it up with her gums. You can also make your own cookies with oatmeal and bananas and apple sauce. Just mash up a couple of bananas, add some ground up oatmeal and a couple spoonfuls of apple sauce, spoon onto a greased cookie sheet and bake at about 350 for like 15 minutes. They are soft and quite yummy. My daughter loves them. I've also given my daughters rice rusks when they were that young. They kind of dissolve in the mouth.

Some finger foods that our son enjoyed at that age were....cubed avocados, whole grain toast with cream cheese, jelly and or butter, fruits of all kinds cut into small pieces, fresh steamed veggies of all kinds, homemade sweet potato fresh fries, cubed bagel's with a little jelly or butter, well cooked pasta with a homemade cream sauce, cubed homemade garlic bread, dried cereals...our son also had no teeth at 6 months and ate all of the things listed above having no problems. What a fun stage you're in! :) Have fun!
