I was planning on waiting as long as possible till I gave my little girl food but when I took her in for her 4 month check up her doc said she was ready and suggested that I start her on foods..I asked about the cereal and she said it wasn't nec. I did however give her cereal first now I've been giving her different stuff at least 3 days apart and a little suggestion no one told me was to give them new stuff in the morning that way if there are adverse effects it's during the day and your not up all night!!!!!!

Every baby is different. I would talk to your doctor. My baby was born a very big baby at 9lbs 4oz, I started him on rice cereal at 6 weeks cause he was draining me (I was breastfeeding) and screaming because he was so hungry. I think started on formula and little rice cereal to satisfy him, suggested by my doctor. I started him on solid at 2 and half months. He is now 4 months and eats its all, I am about to start him on stage 2 foods...He is a little porker, he is 20lbs and 27inches long.
But again, every baby is different. You should know when your baby is ready.

Ideally you would start solids at 6 mths. If you think your baby needs them sooner and is meeting all the criteria pertaining to readiness you should still get the all-clear from your doctor.
I started my daughter just before 5 mths at the recommendation of her paediatrician as she was having far too many bottles and exhibiting all the other signs that she was ready.

i started all my daughters( i have three) at 3 months on the rice cereal..... they did great with it lol well after they got used to it lol.....
But i think its up to you when you would like to start. i talked to my youngest daughter's doctor and she said if i thought she was ready then try it.

good luck

If you wean at 5 to 6 months (6 months + is better for health reasons) you do not need to puree at all.

Have a look at baby led weaning, or just mash loosely with a fork.

I started my son at 5 and a half months. He was finishing all of his milk feeds and crying for more, even after i'd upped the amount I was offering him. After speaking to my H.V; she suggested starting offering him baby rice after his mid morning feed (10am ish). I did this until he was 6 months old and started him on fruit and vegetables pureed.
I do know of someone that started weaning their baby @ 4 months old, and has had nothing but complication after complication with the little boy :o( The Mum was advised to but the baby back on breast / formula milk......

Around 6 months for most babies. You need to wait for them to sit on their own and lose the tongue thrust reflex - otherwise you'll find they just push the food out of their mouth.
