This is my second bub I'm 15 weeks and will be having my ultrasound in a few weeks. I know it's to check the babys growth but you can also find out the gender if you can. My first child was a boy and the u/s said boy! I have been told stories like if they don't see the boys part they just say girl and girls aren't always 100% accurate. My question is was your gender prediction correct? And how many weeks were you?

hi, I had my first at 20 weeks and we were told they think it was a boy, at 32 weeks we were told it was a girl for sure, at my 38 growth scan they said no way its a girl its a boy.... lol it was a boy

No, that's not how it is done. With little girls, you can actually see their labia in the scan. With both of my daughters, you can clearly tell they have vagina and not a penis in the ultrasound. If they can't get a good shot or aren't sure, they will give you a lower percentage rate on the gender (70% sure it's a girl! or a boy) instead of 85-90%. Most will tell you that no matter what, there is room for error.

we were 19 weeks and they couldent tell us what this baby is. The baby didnt want to sit still and they got a pic but they ssaid they cant say what the baby is for sure. So instead of where they normally write boy or girl our little baby just has "gender" :( I have the pic it has one part that looks like a boy but the part is so mishaped I think its the cord. and I see the 3 lines for a girl so we are going to have to pay for another scan to see what this baby is

The labia is that the three lines. They saw the 3lines on my scan and were very positive it was a baby girl but they said it's 98% accurate.

No I don't have a pic but they gave me a quick 3d ultrasound which is when they saw the 3lines. Wouldn't a 3d be a little more accurate? The baby was in a really awkward position and when I went for the ultrasound I was 19.5 wks

Yeah, three lines. It is because it opens up even while your daughter's legs are spread. Also, the genitals are not fully developed. So you see a split down the middle of the ultrasound. Do you have a pic of your ultrasound?

The most accurate time to find out is between 18 and 20 weeks, which is when I had mine done and both were correct. Good luck!

My girl was shy and the u/s tech just told us they couldn't tell, that was about 20 wks. My boy was proud to show it and he was around 20 wks too.

With my 1st it was very clear that it was a boy, with my 2nd pregnancy had a u/s at 20weeks found out it was a girl but she said she wasn't 100% sure, so we had a 3d/4d u/s done at 32 weeks and it was confirmed we were having a girl.
I also had a friend that was told she was having a girl but a few weeks later at another u/s she was told it was a boy and it was very clear that it was a boy too.

Thanks everyone. I had the ultrasound at 19.5 wks and they said it was a little girl!!! Yay! It was in an awkward position so they gave me a 3d one as well and they got a shot between the legs and I saw the 3lines! I'm pretty positive it's a girl. It could be wrong but my mothers instinct says it's a girl:-)!! Thanks for all the feedback!

I was 20 weeks will all 3 of my children when we had our ultrasounds. I've only had girls, so I don't know exactly what a boy one would be like. But if it's a girl, there are 3 little lines between their legs. With all 3 of ours the lines were pretty easy to spot. I haven't had our 3rd yet, so I can't say positively that she was born a girl, but the first 2 were easy to tell they were girls and were very correct! Good luck! :)

my son was predicted a boy and obviously they were right. im now preg 22 weeks with apparently a girl, but they said not to come back and hunt them down if its a boy because they tuck the penis under the belly! so im woried haha. but im convinced its a girl for sooo many personal reasons anyway.. fingers crossed lol!

i was 17 weeks when they told me they were only 75% sure it was a girl. and at 22 weeks they knew for sure. she was definitely a girl, she did however look just like her dad. haha

With my daughter, the tech saw girl parts. The tech even pointed out what we were looking at and why she thought the baby was a girl. I think I was around 20 weeks, it could have been earlier though.

They have a 3% chance of being wrong. most people get the right gender, a very small portion don't. i do know 2 people who were told the wrong sex, one a boy other a girl. i personally prefer the surprise! didn;t find out on my first and won't i my second!

i was 14 weeks at my second ultrasound & it was most definitely a boy : ) but my sister didn't find out she was having a girl until about 30 weeks, because they couldn't be 100% sure what they were looking at between the legs on ultrasound. I'm 22 weeks pregnant with my second now & im thinking it's a girl, because we couldn't see anything between the legs, but the Dr. said to wait on buying pink just yet, something may pop up on the next ultrasound which will be a 3d ultrasound.

I am also pregnant with my second child. We found out what were were having at 17 weeks with my daughter and it was correct. However with this pregnancy I had an ultrasound at 14 weeks just to check the fetal development and was very surprised to see that my little bean was more then happy to show us HIS parts..drink something with some sugar before your appointment to get the baby moving and you will have better results! Good luck! :)

I had an ultrasound at 18 weeks. And we could clearly see the vulva (external genitals). The ultrasound technician pointed that out to us, so it was quite definite. But then our daughter gave us a very clear shot at seeing her gender. Lol!

Mine was a girl and I had a girl. From what I understand they look for the turtle for the boy and three dots in a row for the girl. And for both my girl and the baby I'm pregnant with it looked different. I saw the three dots for her very well and a little turtle for supposedly him, I will find out in a few weeks if that was right.

i was 22 weeks with my daughter n yes it was right...i have heard stories about if the baby is not in a good position it is hard to tell--sometimes if the tech is patient they will let u get up n walk around a bit to get the baby in a different position. mine was extremely cooperative-her legs were totally apart--such a lady--lol...u could tell it was a girl no penis whatsoever...n they say the parts r distinguishable by 16 weeks. we should b able to find out with this 1 at the end of august or early september & i can't wait. Good Luck with yours:)

We found out at 18 weeks that we were having a little boy, which was correct.

My friend had a 3D ultrasound and they said it was a girl. It was a big surprise for everyone when she was born with a little penis.

i went for a 3-d scan to find out the gender (our dr's won't tell you anymore unless you're classed as high risk so you have to go to the private 3d clinics). we found out at 20 weeks - there was no mistaking that we were having a boy :)

I know it's possible for them to be wrong (whether it's a boy or girl), but I have honestly never known anyone who has had the ultrasound be wrong (including us). Our first two were correct (girl first and boy second) and we will find out in 3 weeks if the 3rd was right. We have had many ultrasounds this pregnancy and each one has said boy (the first one was done at 17 weeks I believe).

PS - Here in Canada, most people actually find out the gender beforehand, it's really uncommon these days to leave it as a surprise!

Both of mine were right but I've talked to a lot of people who were told the wrong genders. The ultrasound technicians do their best to guess but they are human. Sometimes the babies are in a funky position so they can't tell or the penis may be tucked in so they may assume it's a girl or they may mistake an enlarged clitoris on a girl for a penis so make sure you have a lot of gender neutral stuff just in case they're wrong. Even though I was told my first one was a girl, I got mostly white and yellow and was able to reuse is all for my second, a boy (born 6 weeks ago).

With my 2nd - They said Boy and it was 100% right.. With my Twins I was about 24 weeks and I think I was around the same with my son.. GL with your pregnancy..

No I'm 15wks now and will have it around 20wks. So I have still have about a month until I have it. Majority or people I know these days find out the sex. Mainly to prepare themself with certain colours and names. I'm just curious as to see how many were actually accurate.

[deleted account]

yes, it's pretty typical to find out around here. It's sort of annoying to people when you don't, in fact. My first was a boy, they got it right at 20 weeks. My second was a girl, also right at 20 weeks. Is having an ultrasound standard at 15 weeks where you live? I've never heard of such a thing.
