I need help on what kind of dog to get. I am more asthmatic the my son. N he okay with dogs around. But i just wanna make sure he gets to enjoy having i pet like I did. and since I finally I have committed on taking on this responsibility. So am planning to get a small low shedding dog but I need help on what kind of dog. If any one could help would be great. I haven't been on here in a while n it changed so much.

A lot of the "fluffy" dogs are hypo-alergenic, things like poodles, beshons, and similar dogs. Do a google search for dogs that are good for people with allergies. The only consideration with those types of dogs is that because they don't shed they need to be groomed on a regular basis. That can start adding up. In my area getting my golden groomed is about $65- I find with her if I brush her regularly and cut her nails myself I only need to have her groomed twice a year or so (they cut around her ears, between her paws and her tail). I'm guessing for a dog that size your looking at $35-40 every 6-12 weeks....

When I was in college I used to work at the ASPCA, the most common reason that I saw for a family rehoming a small dog was that it bit a child. I also saw a fair number of small dogs injured by a child. In my experience most dogs bite because they are being hurt- its a lot easier for a child to hurt a small dog than to hurt a big dog. So I would say if you're looking for something smaller consider how "sturdy" it is. Things like Yorkies are some what fragile where as a jack Russell is also small but "tough".

Good luck! :)
