It doesn't matter if you weren't trying to make them feel bad about their age, that is exactly what you were insinuating.

Choosing not to retaliate is a sign of maturity. My advice to my son who is currently on the receiving end of some verbal bullying right now (by a boy from another school, so it's a difficult one, long story), "Don't react. Often the reason people do these things is to make themselves feel better by your reaction. Choose to grow a thick skin and ignore it. Eventually, he will stop because he has realised it doesn't bother you. You need to be comfortable with who YOU are and that is all that matters. What others think or say is not important."

Resilience is something we teach our children, so it is something we need to learn for ourselves before we can truly teach it to them.

Unfortunately you are always going to have someone judge you on all sorts of things ... being a young mom, they way you dress, the way you talk ext. Just be happy with who you are and if someone else doesn't like you then that is their problem. I used to live my life trying to make other people happy and is was a never ending thing. Now I am who I am and I have never been more happy in my life.

"I can be more active with them, do more things, take them more places, and I still have a life of my own as well."

And, wow, another person deciding to judge older mothers....because older mothers can't do these things? Seriously? You are ALSO doing exactly the same thing you are bitching about.

I gave birth to my daughter at 19, I'm now currently 20 and due again this June around my 21st birthday. I get the looks ALL the time when I am out in public. I shrug it off, I thoroughly enjoy being a younger mother. I can be more active with them, do more things, take them more places, and I still have a life of my own as well.

You do realise that by saying something like that, it is reverse ageism, right? You just made a statement that older mothers can't really play with their kids, so you just did EXACTLY what you don't like others doing to you.

I have friends that have received dirty looks too, both were around 20-21 when they had their first baby. People who do that are ridiculous.
