Okay, I got on the depo shot at 17 years old Sept (2009) and got off at 20 years of age in April (2013) so I was on it for 3years and 9months (I was suppose to take my shot this past April but my husband & I talked about wanting to get pregnant) umm, we have been trying since April but no success I know it hasn't been long enough but I am frustrated about it and a little worried; I have done a lot of research on the pros and cons of being on the shot so it makes me think a lot. I'm looking for some advice or anyone that is having similar or the same problems as I am. I haven't had a period within' those years of being on the shot so its hard for me too tell if or when am ovulating.

I would love to read your feedback, thanks

Hi... I have been on the depo shot for 2 1/2 years. I got off of it when I switched jobs in March of 2013. I was suppose to take my next shot in April 2013 and I didn't. The doctor and nurses told me it can take 6 months to a year to get my period or get pregnant. Within 6 moths I finally got my period which lasted one day than the following month the same thing happened. And now this month (November 2013) I took a pregnancy (which I do every month since my period is irregular due to the depo shot) and it was positive. I took the test Nov. 8 and on the 10th got a full blown period. This is my first regular period since before the depo shot. Now I'm confused because I actually thought I was pregnant and me and my husband were already preparing ourselves for another baby and just like that I finally get my period. I called my doctor's office and they asked me to go in and take a blood test to be sure but the nurse over the phone said it could still be the effects of the depo shot.

The depo shot is an extremely strong drug it fools the body into thinking its already pregnant and getting off it has some long-term effects. But they do have some hormone pills to help you get your period and get pregnant. The nurse told me the doctor can prescribe it when you want to get pregnant so go see your doctor and tell him/her to prescribe it to you.

Hi Leticia just read your comment. Thank you this is quite helpful. I do need to see a doctor but I recently moved so I haven't gotten comfortable with a stable clinic yet but if there are pills that can help that's' great. and good luck too you.

I am in the same boat you are in. I have been on the shot for 4 years and didn't have periods. It has been exactly 1year and I have irregular periods, so it's hard to detect when I am ovulating. I guess it just takes time and you will get through it :) I am still waiting as well.
