hmm... this is a tricky one really. He has obviously needed the extra comfort in the past, and now he is just used to it. You could try introducing a reward system for every night he sleeps in his own bed, like a star chart, and if he collects so many stars he can have a treat like a day out somewhere or something like that.

Does he have a favourite teddy? You could try a little bit of psychology and say his teddy wants to sleep in his own bed, but will get lonely, so could he keep the teddy company? I know that sounds daft.

Another thing you could try, and it will drive you mental for a bit, is try sitting with him in his bed, read him a story, sing some songs and stay with him until he falls asleep. Try holding his hand to begin with, then gradually begin to move further away over a month or so. Sit in the middle of the room, then stand at the door, then sit at the top of the stairs etc, and just let him know you are still there. I had to do that with my daughter, but she was alot younger. There will probably be tears, and it will probably tear your heart in two, but in the long run it is better for all of you.

I hope that helped in some way.
