Hi, I am 24 and i have 2 children, 4 and 2 years old. I have always been home with my kids since they were born. Now i have the opportunity to go back to college and get funding for it and i would love to go back and get my college diploma. I have always loved school. It is just my motherly guilt stopping me. I feel guilty because i have always been home with my kids. I'm scared it will be to hard on them. My 4 year old starts pre-kindergarden when i would start college but it is only half the day and i would have to put my 2 year old son in the daycare at the college where i would be going. It is a very good daycare and i know he would probaly like it. ....but its just me...my guilt...i feel like a bad mom for going back to school that i should be home with them...it would be nice to hear advice from other mothers please...i dont know what i should do...

I understand what u mean when u say u feel guilty.im getting ready to go back to school this month.im 27 and have a seven year old whom I just had to enroll into an after school program, and I feel so bad about it,and just like u I feel like I am being a bad mom.but then I look at the reason why I am.we are going back to school to better the lives for our children and that makes me feel so much better.the light at the end of the tunnel is so worth it.and besides the little ones will be able to socialize with other children and make great friends

I have a 4yo and I am expecting my second in August, but I am back in school. It took me a while to figure out how I was going to manage it, but I have it figured out to work the best way for me...I go to an online university so that I can stay home with my son. He likes to sit next to me and "help" me with my schoolwork. Here's how i look at it, I'm not just going back to school for me, I am showing my son that school is important and trying to set an example for him. It makes me feel a lot less guilty about going back to school. BTW, I'm 22 and trying to get an Associates degree online. It's fast paced, but I found a good school that is flexible enough for me.

Going back to school is GREAT!! You are doing it for your children and they will reap the benefits! Go, try not to stress, and Good Luck to you!

I'm a mom of 5, a SAHM and just started college a little over a month ago. Some days it's hard and other days its easy. It all just depends on how my children are behaving that day. If it wasn't for my husband encouraging me to go back now, I dont think that I would've ever gone back. My advice would be to believe in yourself and do the best that you can.

I go to school and I have two kids, 4 years and 14 months and my kids LOVE going to the inhome daycare. My older one goes to prek half day and on the days I have school he goes to the daycare. I feel like I am showing my kids that I go to school to make myself better so they can certainly handle going to school. They will see the better life they will have from me completing my education.

IM IN THE SAME SITUATION AS OF NOW. WISH I COULD HELP BUT AS FAR AS THIS TOPIC GOES I NEED HELP MYSELF. MY CHILD IS IN DAYCARE NOW AND IS ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. I KNOW SHE WOULD REALLY MISS ME AND IM AFRAID THINKING OF HER WOULD CAUSE ME TO LOSE FOCUS WHILE IN SCHOOL. :-( THE FACT THAT SHE BATTLES WITH SEVERE ALLERGIES AS WELL AS BROCHITIS ON A MONTH TO MONTH BASES (LITERALLY) MAKES IT EVEN HARDER...LOL IM ABSOLUTELY NO HELP...SORRY

Im in the same kind of boat so i understand completely!
I also want to further my education, but being a sahm of 3 under 5 makes it a bit harder!
Ive decided to do it, but at home that way im still with my children.

This is up to you. Weigh the pros and cons.
Good luck

I think only you can decide whether you feel comfortable with this. Your children will be fine as they adapt really quickly to new situations. It is whether you could study and keep focused enough, not worrying about the kids all day. I think if you can do this in the long term it would benefit your children because you will be able to get a better job.But guilt is a strong emotion. You are going to have wrestle with your emotions on this one and search deep into your heart. Can you do it?
