My little guy was maybe.. 4 days old. I had him in bed with me ( which was an air mattress on his nursery floor at the time) and I got up to take a shower in the morning. He was soundly sweetly sleeping, so I did not want to move him (We all know what a delicassy showers are when they're that young), so i took the monitor into the bathroom with me. He started crying and my heart jumped! I rushed it to find my newborn on the floor face first. I thought I may have a heart attack. He was completely fine, thank goodness it was an air mattress. Then when he was 4 months old he was in his carseat on our counter, I was rocking him to sleep. His dad did not know he was not buckled and picked the carseat up to swing him gently to sleep (the handle wasn't locked) well his weight shifted the carseat and flipped him out onto the floor! extremely hard tiled floor!! He screamed bloody murder... (so did I) I hysterically comforted him for a few minutes before strapping him into his carseat and driving to our nearest emergency room. He was fine, he had already had a tooth at the time and it bit his lip on the fall, but that was the worst of it! Needless to say, I don't think I'll be getting the mom of the year award. Praise the Lord he made babies tough!

My first fell off our bed at 6 months and never went near the edge again. My second fell off at 6 months thought it was funny and did it over and over (unless we caught her first but she got REALLY fast and would laugh) untill she figured out about a yr to turn around. My son who is 6 months old just flipped himself out of his Fisher Price bouncer/rocking bed thing the other day and got mad because he got stuck. (He thought it was funny because he wiggled out of the buckle to do it) I would just check all over, watch the eyes to make sure pupils are the same size and reactive. Also dont let them sleep for a few hours. Most kids will be fine. I learned to keep pillows on the floor beside my bed because of my second child.

Plenty of times. The first time i cried for ages feeling like a bad mom. It's very upsetting, but it happens to all, and not once either. Luckily he is fine and I watch him like a hawk.

My daughter has fallen off the bed & couch. The 1st time she fell, it was off the couch...I cried. She's 14months now, and I laugh because now she is such a drama queen about it, and after a min she up dancing around again. :)

Yeah, both of mine have, and they were fine. They were both older when they did, though. (Like around a year) I also have a friend whose baby fell off the bed and ended up having to have surgery on his lip.

Once, I was taking a shower and baby was sleeping with daddy. No bumps or brusies. Second time, I had big blankets around her and she pushed those out of the way and fell hitting the nightstand. Poor thing had a big bruise on her arm and wack line from the nightstand on the back of her head. I took her straight to the doctor. It was so scary:0 My boyfriend took the bed frame and put it in the spare room and now are bed sets on the floor and when she naps I put pillows all around her. SO don't feel bad just be extra carefull:)

My son rolled off the bed about a week ago. He is about 5 1/2 months. I fell asleep with him on the bed after him eating ( i lay on my side so he can eat laying down with me) and I woe up and didn't see him, he started crying ans was under the bed! There was a pillow where he fell and he rolled himself under the bed and got scared after that I guess. He was okay as soon as I picked him up. I can say after that the bed went all the way against the wall so it won't happen again!

When my daughter was still learning how to roll over, I was changing her on my bed. I looked away for a second to grab a diaper, and took my hand off of her for a second, and next thing I know, she was on the floor crying. I felt like a terrible mom, but it was an accident. Babies will do that many times and fall off of many things, don't worry, your not a bad mother :)

Yes definitely my daughter got sick one night so I put her in the bed with us; I put her on my side up against the wall.. The head of the bed was longer than the matress so there is a big gap between the wall and bed.. I misjudged the gap and thought she wouldn't be able to fit through it.. BOY was I wrong. She just cried for a minute and then went right back to sleep didn't even seem to phase her. From then on she slept in her crib sick or not. Didn't wanna take any chances lol.

No, tho when she was about 4/5months old she rolled off the sofa. It was a loooong rough night w/ her. We coslept but her dad was keeping us both awake due to his snoring and he wouldn't move to the sofa so we did...it was a huge overstuffed one where you have pillows for the back, and not attached cushions so I just moved them and then would lay down with her.Had done it TONS of times both in the middle of the night and during the day so I could watch tv and also lay down to BF her.Usually she would just flinch and I'd wake up but I was so exhausted bc I was also watching 3 older kids during the day that I didn't feel her move until she cried when she did her face plant bc she was still needing to be swaddled. I felt sooo bad for awhile, lectured her dad in the morning about how he needs to sleep on the sofa for now on when he's keeping us awake. She was ok..just a small spot of rug burn on her nose bc the place we lived had that crappy carpet the schools have.

Both of my kids have and still do. But my kids also fall just walking accross the room lol. I even put my son in a thing that is made to keep them from falling off the bed but he still done it. They now have gotten to where if they fall off they just fall back asleep in the floor. haha. i dont mess with them when that happens cause they are obviously not hurt. It happens, and will many more times. Heck, i still fall off the bed sometimes. hahaha

When my son was 6 months old, he climbed right out of his crib and landed face up on the floor. I had thought he was sleeping and was in the kitchen making breakfast. When I heard a loud thump and his shriek of pain, I instantly knew what had happened and found him on the floor, crying hysterically. It took everything in me to not call 911, because yes I was that panicky first time mom you hear about all the time until he was about 8 months old, but once he calmed down and I checked him out, he was just fine. However, to be safe, I didn't move him until I could make sure nothing was broken. Since then, he's fallen off of so much AND now he jumps from things pretending he's a dragon, so you know, it's just what kids do. I think that's why so many of them are so chubby. They bounce better. :)

My eldest has had his head glued twice, some kids are explorers while others are content watching tellie but I think all of them at one time or another fall off the bed! Mine unfortunately kept up the trend and all I can do is monitor him when he crashes, take him to the ER when its serious and seek professional help if I have any doubts! I felt the same as you did when he took his first tumble, it is evidence you are doing a great job that you had doubts and asked :)

All five of mine have fallen out of beds. The most recent time is a few days ago when my 7yr old daughter fell out of bed and ended up bruising her leg pretty good on a toy.
Also, they have all fallen down stairs, fallen off swings. I even had one fall out of the car because he tried to jump!
Kids fall. They are durable. We all fell as kids as well. Your baby will be fine.

OMG! I remember when my daughter feel off the bed when she was 3 weeks old! I felt so horrible and scared. When I heard a thump and crying ( was in the other room with family) I literally jumped over my grandparents that were sitting on the couch a picked her up. My mom came in and started checking on her since she is a nurse and say my daughter was fine. I was relieved but held her sooo close feeling terrible. My daughter calmed down and hang out with us till family left. Then 2 weeks later she did it again! LOL! Overall, at first you will feel so horrible but they are scared as much as you. Just console them after you check to see if they are okay. And both of you will feel much bettter. :)

No falling off the bed *knock on wood*. But my older daughter fell onto the hearth of our fireplace when I was trying to help her stand when she was 18 months. I've also had to do CPR on her when she was 2 months, have her hospitalized at 4 months for kidney reflux and I banged her head on the built in soap dish in the bathtub. But nope she hasn't fallen off the bed..., at least when she was little.
My 3 month old nearly fell into a plate of pasta when a friend of mine was trying to burp her. I don't know how that would've turned out.

Emma- Your not a tyrant. I only cried the first time my oldest fell. After that I just laughed it off which seemed to help her. Each Mom has a different trigger for crying. You are just emotional stronger when your kids get hurt. nothing wrong with that!

[deleted account]

when my first was about 4 months old he fell off the couch, i cried more then he did, rushed him to the dr, the receptionish laughed at me, he was fine. Also within 4 weeks his two friends fell too, out of a high chair, and off a change table. they were both fine too.

I cried the first time my son got his shots, I cried when he bit through his lip, etc, etc. I guess it's just the feeling of failing him as a mother. It's our job to protect them, yes they are going to get hurt, its inevitable, but it still doesnt mean I like to see it happen. Now that he's 9 months old, and my hormones are back to normal...(almost) I find it easier to brush it off, and say "it happens" but all of those firsts, I definitely cried :(

I have just never thought of crying when my kids get hurt. Its part of being a kid. Its like crying when they get shots, I guess I just don't get it or see the point.

I cried! I just hurt the most precious thing God gave me! That and think abut the way the courts look at child abuse anymore thats not child abuse! All that rushes at you at once, and you cant help it!

We were on vacation and my daughter fell off of the bed two days in a row. She landed on her back both times and cried, but mainly from the shock of it I think. She still hasn't learned because every time I let her play on my bed she will crawl right over the edge and I have to catch her. I used to cry every time she would hurt herself, but then I learned that she is going to fall down a lot, it's part of growing up. I just make sure I am there to pick her up and calm her down when things happen.

my son fell off the bed for the first time when he was probably 4/5 months old. he hit the frame of the bed & got a bruise on his nose. :( he's fallen off a few times since then as well. i would say as long as they dnt have any open gashes or apparent injuries, and they are coherent and alert, then they'll be ok. :) it happens to us all.

When my little guy was maybe a month old, I woke up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water. I went into the kitchen, got a drink, sat down on the sofa and fell asleep sitting up (he was my third, and I was exhausted). About two hours later I woke up, realized I was sitting up on the sofa holding a glass of water and went to bed to find the baby fast asleep on the floor. I just picked him up and put him in bed with me, thank goodness he was ok.
Now he's 8, and does tricks on his bmx with his 12 year old brother. He's not afraid of anything. In fact, I recently moved him to the bedroom in the basement because he went to his room on a time out and jumped out his window (second floor). He was ok then too.
