Headbanging ...

My son is 13 months now and has been banging his head (on the floor, wall, my leg etc.) when he has tantrums, or is tired, or wants attention for quite a while now. When he's in his crib at night he'll bounce his head while crying to or back to sleep and it can stretch on for 20 minutes at a time. During the day he'll do it as protest when you tell him no or is ready for a nap.

If he's throwing a tantrum I try to ignore it and not give in (walk away), and when he's tired I obviously put him to bed ... and I know there isn't too much I can do when he's trying to get to sleep. I just wanted to know if there were other people out there going through the same frustrations?? And any advice on curbing the behavior?? I remember headbanging as a child to go to sleep ... but banging the head into everything when having a tantrum?? That hurts! I just don't get it.

Any feedback?

Hi am,

my son adam is now 6 but I remember he was the very same, hed bang his head off doors, floors walls anything hard!!! What i found did the trick was give him less attention when he did this like yourself! Adam eventually grew out of it unscarred im glad to say but you do get a fright when you see them do this and your thinking how are you not hurting yourself???
