I have a 3 years old step-son and he won't eat anything I offer him. This consists of even common foods- mac n cheese, grilled cheese, sandwiches, cereal, sliced cheese, grapes, strawberries, granola bars! All this child wants is yogurt and pizza. Literally. Obviously his mother gives him these things, but when he comes to our home, we want him to eat healthy and not get catered to all the time. Now don't get me wrong, we offer him any candy he jumps right on it.

I am afraid that as he gets older he is going to hate to come to his dad's house just because we have structure and good eating habits. Someone please help me.

Thank you all for your support, it's hard and at least I know I am not being mean when I tell him this is his dinner.

My son pretty much eats whatever i give him, but he's still young. However, my little brother wouldn't eat what we ate until he was about 9 or 10. He eventually started and yours will too!

I agree...children will not starve themselves and will eat what you give them if they're hungry. You'll find that even though you have structure and routine....it's not a bad thing. You can't change everything when he comes over and he'll be greatful to you one day. It's the parent that sets limits that the child knows loves them. He knows you love him b/c you want him to be a good eater. My son doesn't eat certain things but everytime they are made for dinner for other people he must try it. EVERYTIME. They say that it takes more than once sometimes to decide if you like something so if you constantly bring it to the table...he may surprise you.

Kids wont starve themselves. Only offer healthy food, either he eats or he doesnt. Mine is the same way. We put a little of everything on his plate and he eats what he wants. I dont make special meals, I dont give out sweets or snacks instead of a meal.

Thank you! I should try the smoothie idea because he does like drinks like that.

Oh, also try Tofu smoothies for dessert. When my kids don't eat dinner I give them these b/c tofu still provides protein and iron and other important things they are missing when they don't eat. It can help make up for nutrients lost when they skip a meal. I just add 1/2 a box of Soft Silken Tofu, 1/2c Plain yogurt (or I sometimes use our Organic Strawberry yogurt and skip the sugar), 1-2c frozen strawberries (or fresh with a few ice cubes), 2Tbsp Organic Raw Sugar and blend in the blender. It makes 3-4 servings. They taste great!

Yogurt is good for you and I don't limit my kids on it (We buy Organic yogurt though, no HFCS). We also allow our kids to eat pizza whenever they want for lunch b/c I make it from scratch and it's very healthy. It has a whole wheat crust, homemade pizza sauce, organic mozzarella cheese, uncured pepperoni, bell peppers, onions, olives and mushrooms. Why not offer him that for dinner for at least one of the nights he spends with you? That way he is eating his fav. food AND it's healthy! Then tell him that the other nights he can eat what's served or go hungry. Eventually he'll eat.
