Ok so my daughter is 6 and has been sleep walking for a long time but I am starting to get scared about it. I want to make sure she is always safe. I always lock the doors before I go to bed but she knows how to unlock them and I'm afraid of her trying to go outside or something like that. Normally when she walks into the living room she will walk back and forth between me and the tv 6 or 7 times and then go to the bathroom and go pee then back to bed. Tonight she kept trying to go in the kitchen and i would tell her to go to bed and she would try to go to "Daddy's Chair" and I would say no go to bed and she would try to go back to the kitchen. And that happened several times then I got up and held her hand to walk her to bed and she even tried to go to "Daddy's Chair". Im just scared something could happen to her b/c of this. Please give me any suggestion you may have. Thanks :)

I would suggest putting a baby gate (one of the tall ones) at the end of a hallway that allows access to the front door. That was she can still get to the bathroom, but not to the front door. This is a scary thing, and my mom said my sister did it for a while whenever my dad was deployed (he used to be in the Navy)...is it possibly stress-related? Probably not if she's been doing it for a long time. Just a thought. I would definitely suggest the gate, or if you're uncomfortable with that, you might want to invest in one of those locks that you can put at the top of the door (out of her reach) that slides into place. Good luck!

You cant wake them because they could awake lost and confused and may have a panic attack. I mean think about it, you go to sleep and suddenly your moms screaming at you to wake up and your standing in the kitchen. Your going to be traumatized.

My son also sleep walks...it is a very scary thing. He is 5...when it somes to the door...we now have a chain lock that we lock at night. I feel like we're in Fort Knox but you never know. I make sure that there's nothing in the floor that he can fall on. All you can do from what I understand is like you have done....guide her to bed. Just make sure that there isn't anything sharp for her to get or anything she can fall over and that's really all you can do. It sounds crazy but I actually put a bell on my son's door knob. Even if the door is pulled to and not closed...if the door is moved or hits the wall, the bell jingles and I know he's up...whether he's awake or sleep walking. That has really helped me with my room being down the hall. I just wait to see how long it lasts...my husband slept walked when he was a child and grew out of it...I wait for that day. Good Luck!!

My bro used to do this when he was that age. Mainly he would sleep walk to pee, I cant tell you the random places my mom would find it and he would often go in the garage. So my parents installed these flip type locks at the very top of the doors and for the back door got one of those lil alarms. All of these are available at home depot and are inexpensive. And dont stress it to much my bro grew out of it by 12, just remember not to wake her when shes sleep walking.
