wow coudlnt imagine doing the 4 hour thing. would break my heart. i tihnk if you teach them early enough it doesnt get to that stage any how. my MIL helped me when mine went through a stage at 10 months of crying herself to sleep. she helped me learn to stay out the room and NOT to check lol cause the temptation is difficult

My son is 12 months now, he has been in his room since 9 months. I don't know how you feel about the t.v. but it really helps with my children. They only get to watch one movie @ bed and it must be educational. For my son he likes Baby Einstein- Yo Gabba Gabba and for the older children Dora- Little Bill- Caillou or something of that nature. Then eventually they will go to sleep with nothing at all.

If you are going to let her cry make sure you follow your bedtime routine so she knows sleep is coming and listen carefully to her cries you will know the difference between a tired whiney cry and an urgent cry. If you leave her to get all worked up she will get stressed and this is not good for either of you. I've been told if you cannot commit to leaving you child to cry for up to 4 hours the first night, 3 the next 1- 2 the next and it may take a week of crying then you should not even start. also remember cry it out doesn't not work for every baby. Try rocking her until she is almost asleep and lay her down and pat her or if your really exhausted lay down together? This is a great link if you feel like doing some research into other options http://www.askdrsears.com/html/7/T070100...
Good Luck

dont worry it will not harm :) but if you are worried perhaps seek some advice from some professionals maybe doctors or pediatric nurses? i know in hospitals in the kids ward thy leave many babies to cry they just dont have the time to look after them

oh ok well i do hope it gets easier and that she settles down for you soon. mine is 16 months and i dont really feel bad when she cries now their is a difference when they are this age to when they are a newborn and crying never did a child any harm. good luck

how old? have you tried rice cereal in the bottle? or spoon feeding before bed? controlled crying? as they get older you have to leave them to cry otherwise they get caught that you run to thier every need then you are both in for some seroous heart ache unhappiness and sleep deprivision

have you been nursing her to sleep for 13 months? where does she sleep? Maybe the book by Elizabeth Pantly the no cry sleep solution will help.
