The best way to go about it is to wean both of you off. Start by replacing one feeding per day with formula. After a few days, cut out another feeding, and so on until you are no longer nursing. This will help prevent engorgement and pain.

Why on earth would you want her to stop breastfeeding? breastfeeding is by far the superior method of child feeding. It has been linked to lower rates of child abuse and neglect, higher child IQ, greater immunities to disease and infections, reduced ear infections, decreased speech impairments, it's cheaper, it's always the right temperature, it's available in natural disaster. Milk Production is the breasts job. Unless your daughter is drug addicted there is no reason she should stop breastfeeding if she is happy with it and she has an adequate milk supply.

breastfeeding is a choice between the mother and the child. i didnt want to stop breastfeeding but i was not producing fast enough for my daughter. How old is the child? And why do you want her to stop?
