Hi, I was wondering if anyone has tips for me about bathing my 2 year old?

She loves baths and is good about her body but our main problem is her hair. She is fine with soap going in it but freaks out when we need to wash it out. We have used cups, bowls, a toy she has that leaks water, the shower head, we use our hand to block her face but she freaks out and moves which causes the water to hit her face. She hates lots of water on her face. We don't just grab her and rinse her hair, we go slow and make sure she knows what is coming and what we are using but it never fails, she freaks out and screams and cries.

I need tips to make this easier on all of us. It breaks my heart to watch her go nuts like this and I want her to enjoy all of her baths including washing her hair so she can stay relaxed.

Thanks in advance.

You are doing good with trying to go at her pace. If a child seems like they are forced to do something, they wont like it at all. Have you ever tried laying her down in the water while holding her head? We tell hime lay on your back and he slowy reclines as I hold him and he was unsure about the water on his head but now he will let me cup water with my other hand and gently put it through his hair. He didnt like that at all when we first did that, but its been about a month or so and hes gotten so much better he will let me do it everytime now.

I think it just takes time, just give her alot of praise for getting through it and keep up doing it at her pace but maybe trying to let her do it herself too, she might feel more comfortable nowing better when its coming. Maybe making a game out of it, it might seem more appealing to her.

I am really glad it works for you! I hope it continues and only gets better! Im really glad i could help! If she starts to revert maybe try adding toys like, catch the flying toy, so she has to look up, the squirt toys might be good that you can say "oh the fishy squirted water on you and at the same time pour some water. lol sometimes they are really smart and figure out what your doing fast. lol at least kids, when the start to like somehting they really like it repetitively (sp?) so hopefully shell get used to it and like what your doing at least until shes comfortable again with the water. Hope the best!

Hi! Thought I'd give a quick update. She has had a couple of baths since my post obviously and we tried by making it a game and having her look up/somewhat lean back. She was really good with this method and even the first time we did it she did so well and only started crying right at the end. So now its that last few seconds to get over and I think she will be ok! So I want to thank Stacy for the advice! I will be keeping the head thing in mind, just in case she reverts.

THANKS!!! :D

that thing toni mentioned looks cool, if they will keep it on that would be a great thing to use! I do hope it gets better for you, its hard trying to do normal routines when they all of a sudden refuse, mine has tried different things, but I figure as long as you hang in there and keep tryin it will eventually end. It seems like they just go through weird phases, and its hard to understand, lol the joys of parenting.

Wish ya the best!

We definitely do praise her when all is done and there was one day when she just kind of twitched but no crying and I was so proud but she went back to freaking out the next time. I will definitely try the laying down thing, we have tried in a pool and everything with laying her on her back and she freaked out but we'll keep trying and go slowly and stay at her pace I would hate to terrify her more, so I am never going to force her. I will try to also make a bit of a game of it. Thanks for your response and I'm glad your son has gotten better with it :)
