I make all my own baby food and had an idea today. What if I were to take orders for baby food and deliver it to moms that are too busy to make their own, but still want to give their baby the wholesome goodness of home made!! I just want to get a general concensus of what everyone thinks of the idea of a service that makes, prepares, freezes and delivers homemade baby food for other moms.

Hi Amanda, I recently came up with the same exact idea but see that you changed your direction to helping moms make their own food. I am curious to hear how it worked out for you? Do you still have any inkling to go with your original idea?

Thanks,
Melanie

Im sorry Lisa, but most babies need more sustanance long before they are ready for chunks of table foods.

Anyway, I have changed it a little and even gotten some response back. I am going to work with parents to make a list of what they would like to see their child eating in the next few months, go to a grocery store and pick up everything necessary and then go to their house with all the needed equipment and HELP them make and store it themselves. This way, I dont need to worry about someone thinking its the food that makes their baby sick...they made it. And I dont need to do it in my own kitchen either! Thanks for the help ladies.

Honestly, if moms would just wait until baby is ready for solids, they can just give them baby-manageable pieces of table foods. No need for the spoonfed purees. I personally wouldn't use it.

The idea is great but make sur your aware of all that would have to go into this. First you need a business license which isn't that big of a deal. Then, since it is a food service you would have to be inspected and approved by the health department. If you are doing this from your home it would be really hard to get that approval. The expense of finding a place to run your business might make it to expensive to actually start. I really do think you have a good idea though, I hope you can make something work!

I would be very careful... and fully insured. Babies can get sick over anything, but the first thing a new nervous mom is going to blame it on is 'the baby food that woman sold me!' :/ I work in a pet store and wanted to make homemade healthy dog biscuits... until this point was brought to my attention.

I personally would not buy "homemade" baby food from someone other than close close friend, or family! Sorry.. just my opinion

I think it's a great idea, as long as it doesn't cost too much more than store bought. I also make my own baby food, and it's way cheaper than buying jarred food. I'd buy it! I especially like the delivery idea. It sucks to realize you're out of food when it's time to eat! And sometimes I forget to make him more food in time so he ends up eating a lot of whatever I have on hand that day!
