Honestly. How old is old enough for a child. My 5-year-olds biological father was letting them in a hot tub (public one). I had already asked him not too, and he still did. I was always taught that kids shouldn't go in one because of how hot they are. How hot are they really. And am I worried over nothing. I know I'm over-protective with some things, but there are good reasons because of some of the things he lets them do.

From what I understand, the heat is not the only consideration. Even if it is at a reasonable temperature, small fingers and toes can get caught in the jets and I've heard at least one newsreport of a child being pulled under and getting stuck there with no way of rescue. I would fight him on this issue.

It depends on what kind of hot tub. Some are monitored at certain temperatures and children of a certain age can get in them. Around here there are a few local hot springs. Some children are aloud in because the temperature is a lot like bath tub water and very safe for children. If it's a public hot tub, like at a public pool or what not, I would think that the temperature shouldn't be too high, but I haven't been to the public pool in like 10 years, so I have no idea. If it's private, such as at a friends house, I would think that they'd be able to customize the temperature of the hot tub depending on each individual persons needs (lower for children, high for adults).

I hope this helps.
