i have the same with both my boys its so embarrassing!! i find if you just ignore them they tend to stop, ive tried the "naughty corner" and that just made jack (almost 3) worse, ive tried smacks and i just felt terrible after so i just ignore now and that is proving to be best once they know that you dont care what there doing they just stop.

My 15 month old daughter has recently started with the tantrums too, I have tried spanking (just 1 quick swat) but she just screams more, and louder. So doesnt work for me, I just have to distract her, not reward her, but distract her with something she might want, or I let her whine it out (if at home). Out and about there isnt too much you can do.

I know this is sort of taboo now, but have you tried spanking him? I really think thats whats wrong with kids today. They don't get spanked. I know if I were to have acted like that when I was a kid I would've gotten spanked which is why I didn't act like that. I know parents are afraid of CPS and all that but if you don't over do it it's perfectly fine. it's the only way they'll learn. Time outs, groundings and talks just don't cut it. I know if my son acts up like that I'll definitely discipline him. It's how I was raised and I turned out fine.
