How can I tell if my son is teething?

He is continuously gnawing on his fists and will just belt out with these horrible cries that sound like he is in pain but I have felt his gums and have not noticed anything abnormal. Does it usually take a while for the teeth to start coming through?

my son started teething at 3 months and his teeth finally cut through at 5 1/2 months, he also chewed his hands constantly. his teeth came really quickly though. one day it was normal, the next day i could feel the teeth, and within the week, they had popped up.

He probably is. How old is he? My son started with the teething symptoms at 2 months and now he's almost 8 months old and still no teeth! So yes, it takes a while. Some symptoms my son has had are excessive drooling, chewing on anything and everything he can get into his mouth, restlessness at night, a low fever, cold like symptoms, and fussiness for no apparent reason. If he acts like he's in pain, you can give him some Tylenol or Hylands teething tablets. Also anything cold to chew on is great too, like those teething rings you can chill in the fridge. Another thing my son loves are these slow melt popsicles called Mighty Minis. They're tiny popsicles perfect for babies and since they're slow melt they don't make a big mess. And they're really tiny, there's only like an ice cube's worth of popsicle on there so it's not like he's eating this huge thing. Hope that helps!

Yeah it takes a minute and another indicator is when they tend to drool more than usual.
