be patient! This is when they are learning how to do things on there own...this is what we (parents) want right? When s/he demands to dress herself but clearly cannot I would simply say, let me know if you need help. S/he will, and you will be there for her, remember you don't want to be stuck dressing your 8 year old child right? Just always always always say Let me know if you need help! and be patient, they will either succeed or ask for help...either way your their hero!

my 3 year old is also very independant...she does not like the clothes i choose for her, she does not want me to dress her, and she does not want me to bath her or brush her hair...
just be patient and let them learn on their own...i am very proud that my daughter can do all these for herself.

I agree with Melissa, my 2 and a half year old is also very independent and was from day one, I am constantly hearing 'let me do it' and i usually say ok but tell mummy if u need help. sometimes however it can be a problem for example she doesnt like holding hands when walking so when we are crossing roads ect i have had to teach her that she has absolutely no choice in that at all but i also have taught to check for traffic and tell me when we are safe to go so she feels as though she is in control of the situation a bit still.

Independence is a great thing and as melissa said, its what we want
