I breast fed my son for 1 year and he never really drank alot jus often, now he has stopped breast feeding he seems to drink all the time. I must change his nappy at least 2-3 times an hour sometimes. Ive asked the doctor wot to do n he sed alternate it wiv milk and juice so it wont damage his teeth this doesnt seem to b workin. He only drinks orange juice or blackcurrent or apple juice i have tryed water and he jus throws it back at me. I really need to start getting him potty trained but if he is drinking this much he will never b able to go without a nappy on. I would appreciate any advice on this please.

Oh one other thing you could try adding only a small amount of juice to his cup and the rest water?

I've only ever given my 9 month old water and he loves it! I was told by my doctor that he does not need sweet juices and that starting him on water early and giving him only water to drink (besides breast milk) will help him grow fond of drinking water. In my opinion I would not continue with the juices and olny offer water. If he is thirsty he will drink it! Good luck :)

I slowly diluted jucie until there was mostly water. She'd get used to the taste, then she also got use to the taste of water. She just liked the sugar taste and wasn't really thursty. I'd also just cut back. And also try it as a reward, make him eat first, a few bites, then a sip of jucie. He will get full off the food and drink less juice. I also cut the bottle at nap time, "cold turkey". It's hard and they cry but if you stay strong and don't give in, he will get it. A baby will never let himself go hungry or thursty, it's a servivial instinct. It took my girl to nights to realize no more "baba" at nap time. She wasn't happy but she got it and adjusted quick, now she asks for water and eats more food. Good luck what ever you try.

He likes the sugars, in my opinion unless kids are outside playing they only need drinks at meal times and snack times. And when outside they need water, its hes thirsty he will drink anything you give him. Try starting by diluting the juice and giving milk at meals and juice at snacks. Unless he has some medical condition he doesnt need to drink that much.

I'd say that if he doesn't want water then he's not thirsty. Maybe he just likes the taste of juice. My daughter tries to do the same with milk and can drink up to 2 litres of it a day if she were allowed. If she says no to water, I leave the cup of water where my daughter can reach it and she will come back to it when she's thirsty. You just have to ignore the tantrums and they get the idea. If he really wants juice try offering him fresh fruit so he can still have the taste. He might not want it, but like I said... if water's not good enough for him, then he's probably not genuinely thirsty.
