i don't know my 13 month month old daughter used to suck hers all the time and now the only time she ever does it is when she's sleeping

I pushed the pacifier. I figure I can eventually take the pacifier away, but you can never take the fingers away! My 21 month-old does still suck her thumb, but only when she's tired or upset (she is teething on those 2 year-old molars!).

Well for my daughter, I bought this Mavala Stop from amazon.com. It was about $8 and it's a nail polish for nail biters/finger suckers. We applied it once a day and it kept a bitter taste on her nails that won't wash off. Madeline, my daughter, knew exactly what it was and that it was going to make her fingers nasty but we had talked about it and she wanted to stop before her teeth looked "ugly." She only slipped up one time and had to have some water to get the taste off of her tongue. She took a little extra soothing to get to sleep the first couple of nights because she was so used to her fingers but after that she was fine! I did apply it for a whole month because they say it takes like 30 days to make or break a habit. That stuff is for 3 and up so I wouldn't use it on the baby but it would be great for your daughter! Hope this helps. Good luck!

I can relate to Randi Ryler I am 22 years old and I still do it. My parents tried everything with me from taping gloves on my had to pepper everything. But it is a habit to break now because I mean I am a mom and do it and cant stand it but half the time i dont even realize i am doing it. But as in breaking it it is jsut somethign you ahev to stay on them about and hope it breaks several kids i went ot high school with did it either with their fingers of thumbs. I wish you the best of luck.

When my son was born I pushed the pacifier. I was a finger sucker and did it until high school so any time I saw his finger in his mouth I would replace it with the passy. I new that it would be easier to ween him off the pacifier because you can take it away and a finger you can not. Good luck with whatever you find works.

I know of people who always pulled the fingers out and replaced them with a paci. I, personally, had a finger sucker and just let it be until she got a little older and we stopped it then. How old is the child?
