How do you get your three year old to stop arguing about everything?

That might work. I have tried the count to three approach, but maybe that would work better. I don't have a problem with spanking when necessary. The biggest thing is she does it in public when she thinks I won't do anything. It's embarrasing and frustrating.

IT SOUNDS BAD , MY SON IS TURNING 3 IN DES AND I ONLY FIGURED IT OUT A WEEK AGO,COUND BACKWARD FROM 5 .WHEN YOU GET TO 1 GIVE HIM A SMACK ON THE BUM.YOU'LL ONLY HAVE TO DO THIS ABOUT THREE TIMES MORE. AND THEN YOU ONLY HAVE YOU SAY 5. I KNOW IT SEEMS CRUEL BUT IT WORKS AND REMEMBER TO FOLLOW THROUG BECAUSE THEY WILL TEST YOU

I wish I knew the answer to this question myself. I have a 3 yr old son who is quickly becoming the "boss" man...or so he thinks. I have discovered one thing that seems to work though. Like the other girl said giving them some responibility seems to help. When I give the option of making some decisions on his own he seems to do better. He doesn't argue as much and makes things a little easier. For example if I let him pick his clothes or choose what he wants for a snack he doesn't seem to argue as much with me. I hope that helps!

Its not her job to be the boss, that position is filled. When you establish clear boundaries for her she will be happier and more respectful. To trust you she has to respect you, to respect she needs boundaries. Put your foot down, be stern. When you tell her to do something, a chore, or to stop arguing with you there must be discipline to back it up. Dont say something over and over. If you have to repeat your demand over and over and she eventually wins, no one is profiting from that. Say it once, give a warning and then time out or spanking, whatever you do for discipline. There is a difference between punishment and discipline. Punishing is out of anger, discipline should come from a calm assertive place. Just be the boss. assert that you are in charge and it isn't up for contestation.
