How long was labor with each child?

I am expecting my 3rd child and I've heard women say that each labor and delivery is much faster than the 1st. Has me a little scared because with my 1st child my labor and delivery lasted 8 1/2 hrs, but with my 2nd it was only 3 1/2 hrs. I hope the 3rd doesn't end up coming before I get to the hospital, LOL.

my labour was induced with my 1st child at 12am and i had her at 3;15am so the 1st child was 3hr 15 mins. Secound child my labour started when I was sleeping around 4am and she was born at 6:12 so that's about 2hrs and 12mins. and 3rd child the labour started at 1:30 am and had him at 6:05 am so that's 4hrs and 35ins and he was the easiest

Half of you are so lucky to have had short labours i only have one boy but trying for another but my labour in total was 21.5hrs in that time i found out my grandfather died aswell so that may not have helped either i'm hoping the next child/ labour will be faster and I highly recommend waterbirths they are awesome

3hours with my first one and 4 hours with my 2nd one! But it was easier! each pregancy is different which you already know! but the next one could take as long as the first or second one did but you never know! God has planned it and if he wants it to come he will make it! Good luck and best wishes and Congrates! Marie

I only have one, but I went into labor at 6pm Tuesday night, and Dresden was born at 7:41pm on Wednesday by emergency c-section. It was a very long day.

Well I have 2 children I guess my situation was kind of different my blood pressure went up with both of my kids so I had my labor enduced. It took 12hrs for both to be born but I only felt the pain with both for a couple of hours, 3 pushes with both and they were out and no I didn't have any type of meds.

My first one was 2 1/2 hours and I'm pregnant with my second one. Due in May. This would have been my third one, but I miscarried 2 years ago. I'm hoping this one will be just as easy and quick as my first one. She was a breeze and there were no Epidural or numbing meds when they had to stich me cuz I tore.

i have also heard that every labor gets shorter and shorter, at least that is if you have no complications...with both of my babies i ways induced which makes labor a lot longer, and sometimes harder, with my oldest, Evan, i was in labor for 28 hours....with my second Ava, labor was more like 13 hours...still horrifying numbers, but there is some proof to the shorter labor after the first....good luck, im sure number three cant be any worse than what you have done already

I just had my first child and I was only in labor for 3 hours. I thought it was braxton hicks when it was really contractions..... Come to find out when I got to the hospital and they checked me I was already 9 cm dilated.... 30 minutes to a hour later I started pushing.

Yes it does go faster with each child I have four my first was a preemie so it was really fast, my 2nd took 10 hours, my third I had to call an ambulance to get me to the hospital on time (I'd suggest going to the hospital right when you know your in labor dont try to take a nap thinking youve got some time) and my 4th took 30 min.

hi hun well i have 4 kids and all my labors were different my 1st was 77 hours my 2nd was 9.5 hours my 3rd was 2 hours and my last one was 23 mins from the time my contractions started.... its all different.. it all depends on your cervix and if the baby drops low enough.... the more active you are closer to the end of your pregnancy helps our your pelvis and cervix out alot... dont be scared just be prepared and good luck

Well I had a 29hr labor with the first and a 10hr labor with the second (Not as bad as it sounds) But my mother in law had her first on the way to the hospital, and she lucked out because there wasnt enough time for her to feel the pain most people talk about, lol.

with my first daughter, my contracrions began at 2 am and she was born just before 10 pm- 20 hours. with my second, i was induced at 8 am and she was born just before 4 pm- 8 hours.....they seem yo come quicker but it also depends on their size.

i have had 2 children my first was 4 hrs and my second was 51 mins. no time for pain relief with either. with my second i went from 5cm to her being out on next contraction. only pushed once with both of them.

it all depends on the baby. my first was 27 hrs. I had 8 hrs hard labor, my 2nd was almost 6 hrs and my 3 was almost 9. just be prepared. your doc will be able to tell you how much efaced you are at each visit , and the way my doc explained it is the more your cervix thins and baby decends the faster labor goes. i hope this helps. congrats on new baby and good luck

40.5 hours for my 1st and i hope for a shorter labor for #2 i was 6 cm when we got to the hospital and he wasnt born for 24 more hours. i got an epidural after 32 hours of labor and rested up for 3 hours of pushing (he was facing my hip and we were very close to a csection but ive got the best ob in the world and she knew i didnt want one so she helped me turn him and then it was magic!

Yeah I heard that each labor is supposed to get progressively faster and found out the hard way that it is just not true. My 1st daughter took approx 8 hours, including the hour of pushing whereas my now 2 month old second daughter had me in over 24 hours of back labor because apparantly I kept going into "latent labor" where my contractions would slow back down from being 5-7 minutes apart back to 30-45 minutes apart though I was still slowly dialating! By the time I was able to push I had been in so much pain for so long I was determined to get her out as fast as possible and only pushed twice before she was born! Even so, we still want another child so hopefully NO MORE back labor! I do hope all goes well with your third delivery and congratulations on having another!

I feel the same as you! My first child I was only in labor 4hrs. My second less than 3hrs...My contractions were 10min apart so i was still at home. My water broke after 1 and a half hrs and I had role over contractions from that moment on. I was crowning in the car! I got to the hospital and in the bed in time to push! The doctor told me jokingly for my next child to come to the hospital at the first sign and if they wouldn't admit me to wait in the waiting room, lol.

Hello

I'm not too sure about that theory because my first labor was easy no drugs, six hours and i gave birth natrually. But my second labor was 32 hours no drugs the first 24 hours then ended with a c-section. I don't want to scare you when it come to have babies it is sooo unpredictable.. Good luck!!!

My labor, starting from the first contraction at about 6pm on a Saturday, to when she was born at 3:58pm on Sunday was about 22 hours, but it only took me about 20 minutes or so to push her out. It was a relatively easy labor. I just had annoyance contractions for most of the time. Not really painful, but enough that you can't get comfortable.

Quoting Amy:

I am currently pregnant with my 3rd (due april 10th). My son who is 7 was 53hrs of labor, 2 hrs were pushing They had to break my water at 1cm. My daughter who is 1 was 15.5 hrs of labor & only pushed thru 2 contractions, My water broke & thats when I started steady contractions. I am hoping this one goes even quicker. As long as I am term & baby is healthy I will deal with water it takes. So excited!

That is so incouraging to me, for my daughter I had 41 hours of labor, I just hope with the next one isn't so long that it makes me exhausted & loopy!

I have three children, my first labour and delivery was 5 1/2 hours, second was about 7 hours, third was 6 hours...so I totally do not agree that the labour happens any faster as you go, however my delivery (pushing) progressed with each...my first I pushed for about 25 minutes, my son (2nd) only five minutes of pushing, my third was just under 10 minutes. And now I am patiently awaiting my 4th. Good luck with the arrival of your 3rd!
