How much did your son or daughter weigh at 6 months? Arianna went to the doctor today for her six month shots... She is 6 months, 5 days and the doctor said she weighs 19 pounds 11 ounces and that she is in the 96th percentile for her weight. She says she is on the heavier side... and that I should not feed Arianna every three hours. What do you think? Any ideas or recommendations? Or is she fine at her current rate?

My kids are going to be 7 months on Tuesday and they just had a check up. One weighs 20lbs 12oz and the other weighs 18 lbs.8oz. The dr says they are perfectly healthy. you still feed your child every 3 hrs? Does she sleep through the night. I give breakfast at 6:30 -cereal and bottle. lunch at 11. Fruit and bottle then dinner at 4. veggies and bottle then nighttime bottle at 7. they both sleep through the night. 7-6:30. every 3 hours seems like a lot for a 6 month old. the 3 bottles during the day each have 6 oz and the nightime bottle has 9oz.

i don't recall what my son weighed at 6 months but i know that at 4 months he was 13lbs and my daughter just had her 2 month and weighed 13lbs. Babies grow at different speeds- listen to your Dr- but also realize that as long as she is eating and sleeping, she is perfect! They grow every day, sometimes a little wide then stretch out some... and again and again...

My little one was 19lbs and 15 oz at 5 months...she is fine.. it is baby fat that will come off when she becomes more active. and the height does play a factor in it.

MY 6 MONTH OLD is 16 lbs. she eats every four hours not including her cereal and fruits. our dr says she is perfectly healthy. i think u should switch drs.I have never heard of a dr telling someone not to feed their child when they are hungry. I have know babies twice that size at six months and they are fine! my oldest daughter was always in the high 90's and she is a very healthy not overweight five year old! if you don't think that something is wrong and you feel that your baby is at a healthy weight, trust your mothers intuition!

My son was around 20 + pounds at 6 months. He was in a convertable toddler car seat because at 4 months he grew out of the baby car seat, so we got the big comfy one early and just kept it backward till he turned 1. I think your baby is fine, some babies are chunky monkeys others are not. I would keep doing whatever you are doing though, you are obviously raising a very healthy baby, and at that age they can't eat just junk, so I think she is just fine in my experience with bigger babies.

How dare he tell you not to feed your baby when she's hungry. My youngest son (now 10 months) was 96 or 97th percentile at six month apmt. The doctor laughed at me when I asked if I needed to be worried about his weight. He said "absolutely not! Some babies just get really chubby their first year." Trust me, Arianna will probably be thin by the time she's 18 months.

My son hasn't had his official 6 month check up yet but I weighed him the other day and he was just under 18lbs. And, definetly feed your child when she is hungry!

Chubby babies are the BEST! My first was born on the smaller side, gained weight quickly, and was a chubby baby! From the time he started crawling until now, he has weighed the same, (25 pounds over 10 months) even dropped a few pounds here and there... that was in October of LAST YEAR. He is now in the 40th precentile for his weight and healthy as can be... My 7month old is 22 pounds, yes 22 pounds! Everyone wants to squeeze him! I'm not worried, because I know when he starts walking and getting taller it will all even out. There's so much to kiss and pinch! Oooh!!! I have to remind myself to keep dressing him and stop kissing those chubby turkey legs ( I get carried away) ... Anyway, I would strongly discourage ever putting your baby on a diet- that's ridiculous! Embrace your chubby baby, and encourage healthy eating choices... Your baby will be more content & you will both be happier

get another doctor! Is she crawling yet, if the awnser is no, then dont panick, she will loose any excess weight(not that it sounds like there is any) when she starts crawling and becoming more active. Some docotrs are stupid! Trust in your own instincts. And if your that worried about it, get a second opinion. My daughter is 9 kilo, and 6.5 months old, i just converted that to pounds and she is 19.8. She is in no way over weight! We just had our baby checkup and all was 100% fantastic.

My daughter Leila turned six months on August 15th and on August 5th she was 19lbs 13oz. She was a only 7lbs 8oz at birth...all babies are different. I'd say listen to your babies ques and she knows what she wants! I feed all my kids when they were hungry, i had no set schedule for feeding. All my kids have been chunky monkeys...all were around 20lbs by 6months. Just gives us more baby to love=)

Feed her as often as you think she needs it!!! Mama's instinct is the best judge of what her child needs. If you haven't already, start her on some solids, which will probably fill her up a little more.

When I was a baby, the doctors told my mom to feed me less, because I was too fat. When she took their advice, I ended up malnourished. So then they told her to feed me this high-calorie formula, which again made me overweight. It was a vicious cycle. And to this day, my metabolism is still messed up.

Oh yeah. To answer your question, my youngest (he's 7 months) weighed in at 23 lbs, 1 oz at his last visit. He's chunky, but he's healthy, and he actually eats less than my skinniest son did at that age.

Topaz is right.....if she's hungry, feed her. My son was 22 pounds when he was six months and my doctor said that he was getting a little heavy. When i took him in for his twelve month needles, my doctor said that his weight was perfect for his age. All babies are different and even if they're a little heavier, that's no reason to make them go hungry.

Kinsley just had her 6 month check up and is 20 lbs 7 oz. But she is 28 inches long. It all depends on how tall they are too. She is definately chunky but perfectly fine. She's just going to be a tall girl like her Mom. I think your baby is just fine as well!

my little boy weighed 20 1bs and 2oz at his 6 month checkpoint. The doctor just told me to feed him more baby food instead of formula. He said the formula makes them fat.

[deleted account]

I say feed the baby as often as she desires or basically demands, my son is now 9yrs old but only weighed 6lbs at birth he now weighs 134lbs and is not even 5feet tall, but at 6mths old he was 22lbs r maybe a lil more, I was tld to stop feeding him so much to limit the amt of food but he wld be fussy and cranky so at times i tried to hold off but then i thought abt it and said if he is heavier thts just wht was intended for him, now the dr says he is not overweight he just has bigger bond structure and tht he is a lil over the norm but dont put him on a diet, so my advice dont give ur baby less food, try cereal r baby foods to see if she will eat less r drink less milk if not then u have to feed her

My son is almost 6 months weighs 10lbs 2oz and 22.5 inches,,, was 4lbs 4oz and 16 inches when born my doc says he's fine. He has put on alot of weight since being born. He eats a jar and half of baby food 3 times a day and 30-48 ounces of milk. My 8 year old weighs 33 lbs and 34 inches tall.... don't listen to doctors, they priscribed my 8 year old cough meds which were too strong and gave her an ulcer! Your baby is fine.

Our daughter was 18lbs 6oz at her 6 month needles. She was in the 95th percentile for her weight & height (shes very long - almost 29" thanks to her dad lol) She's been on jarred baby food since she was 4 months old. I also feed my daughter a bottle every 2-3 huors during the day ontop of her breakfast, lunch n supper. If shes hungry, feed her and dont worry about what ur doctor told you because all babies are DIFFERENT and I think some doctors tend to forget that.

My son is only 2 months and weighed in at 13.4lbs (90th percentile) and my doc said when they're this young there is nothing to worry about. Only when they get older (closer to 12-18 months) is when you should start worrying about weight problems. Esp. if you are breastfeeding, there is nothing to worry about.

My son turned 6 months on August 11 and at his check up the next day he weighed 20lbs 8oz and was 28 1/2 inches long. The doctor said he is in the 96th percentile too. They said to feed him by his size not his age and that he'll slow down growing eventually. My 4 year old was off the charts at 6 months and is now just right for her age. Every child is different and I'd just do what feels right to you.

Your doc shouldn't say something like that. How long is your daughter? My daughter at 6months was 15lbs 3oz and 26 inches. She was in the 95 percentile. She is just fine so I would think your daughter is too! If she is hungry then feed her...just watch for signs of being full..I had that problem before..my daughter wouldn't tell me at first.

Anyway, your doc seems a little rude...is she skinny? lol Your baby is healthy thats all that matters!

My son weighed 19lbs 6 oz at his 6 month checkup and the Dr. just said he looked like a healthy boy. At 6 months he ate about every 3 hours as well. I looked back at my girls weight at 6 months and both of them were over 19 lbs. and were in the 90 -95% as well. They are now 7 and 5 and are both in the 50-60% for height and weight. Don't worry about weight at this age. All that matters is that your baby is healthy and happy.

Her pediatrician said that she is right on track, she is in the 95th percentile for height and weight. Every baby is different, but I think their birth weight has a lot to do with it too.

My son was about the same age as yours when we went for his 6 month check up and he was 15lbs 4oz! The doctor didnt say anything, he eats every 3 hrs and has since the day he was born. So I think ur little man is just fine plus once he starts crawling and climbing he is gonna start shedding some calories and occassionally be more interested in playing than eating!! So no worries!!

my son was about 12.5 pounds at 6 months old. He is a year old next week and only weighs maybe 18 pounds and is 28 inches long. He has always been on the small side.
