How much should my 3 month old be eating?

I'm a new mom and my 3 month old baby boy is very up and down with his feedings. He is on formula. He was eating something crazy like 38oz a day (most feeding were at night) so I was told by my doctor to give him some rice cereal (I gave him one farley cookie cause it is easier on this stomach and i mix it with formula) He now still eats 4 oz every 3 hours. sometimes 2 oz every 2 hours and thats how he has been eating since he was a few weeks old. I just thought by now he would be eating more then that? He sleeps almost threw the night, in bed at 8-8:30 up between 3:30-5 for a 4 oz bottle and then back to sleep until 7:30-8. I just want to make sure he is eating enough. On average its 27oz and one cookie before bed a day. If anyone has some insight that would be great. He is a long baby 26 inches and weighs 13lb, so he is average and gaining weight. I don't know if I am just being weird or paranoid I just don't know what to expect with eating and everything! Thank you!

Every baby is different in what they eat, but as long as he is a good wieght and growing well he is getting enough. I know your doctor told you to give him cereal, but I have always heard that a babies digestive system is not ready for cereal until 4 months.

With eating times they are always ever changing, it never seem like they keep a steady schedule for long. You are not being weird or over paranoid, you are being mommy and wanting the best for him, thats how we moms think!

Im not sure what formual you feed him, but even if its not Gerber, their website is really a great source of information. They have growth and development, what to expect in the upcoming months and they have sample menus on what babies should be eating at each month. Seems like I was just like you when mine was that little and this website really helped me out. I also read alot of child development books you can find them everywhere, they really help for first time mothers that are unsure of what to expect in the next months. They were my llifesavers!
