I am terrified about my grandsons development. I have read all your responses and they seem to come from very interactive parents who would do anything for their child.

I am not so lucky - my grandson has parents, and maternal grandparents who do not spend any time with the child. He is not looked after as he should be. Now let's say you believe all I am saying:

Can this be the reason he can't sit, crawl, laugh, and has very little motor skills?

I just recently had him for 11 days and was able to develop a much better sitting ability and was gaining strength in his crawling abilities. The skills are there, they just need to be developed by interaction.

Very complicated history on this end, but hoping to find out what some other parents may have experienced.

Yours truly
sad nanna :(

Babies do things at their own pace and they're all different. If you're friends have kids, then they should know that, if not, then you're here to educate them - lol!

My 11mo is only now nearly crawling, but he still hates it when he goes flat on his tummy. I figure if he doesn't like being on his tummy, he can always roll over ;p

He's only got 2 teeth (which came in at 10mo) and doesn't say anything yet.

Keep doing what works for you and try not to worry about other peoples opinions.

Peace.

My son HATED tummy time too, so I had him in the walker a lot.

So many people, including his pediatrician told me "No Walkers", but Me and my siblings and both my parents were in walkers as babys and we all walk fine lol

It strengthened his legs, and gave him the idea to walk.

When theyre ready, they'll let you know...Walker or not!! =)

I know exactly how you feel! My daughter was 10 months when she even started looking like she might crawl, and she did end up crawling within two days and now she's all over the place! She also just started pulling herself up and she's almost 11 months now. All babies develop at different ages and rates! I wouldn't worry, some babies don't ever crawl and just go straight to pulling themselves up and then walking! My daughter was the same with being on her belly as well, she hated it! She has a bit of a buddah belly so I thought it just made her uncomfortable? I think as long as he'll let you leave him on his belly, and do it a couple times a day and he'll get his core strength up and will realize that he can push himself up and off of his belly. Good luck!!

thanks so much. my friends keep asking, and when i tell them that he isn't crawling yet, they all look at me like i am doing something wrong.  i know in my head that all babies are different, and yet, i just seem to be so worried that something is wrong, lol. he started standing up on our laps when he was only 2 months, so i thought he would be crawling for sure by now, but i guess i will just wait it out.

how long should be be on his tummy for at a time? he hates it, i usually can't keep him happy on his belly for more than a couple of minutes

Hi Trisha!!

My name is Sharon, and I have a 19 month old son, Richard. Richard did not start walking until he was 14 months.

I was so scared about it I talked to his PCP, and his neurologist, and I was assured that some children don't even start walking until after the age of 2!!

So, FINALLY, after he started walking his development surpassed his age...He was just so used to being catered to, he went at his own pace!!

=)

Hope it all works out for you, and remember, NOW you want him walking, but when it actually happens, you'll be begging for the old days...lol =)

I wouldnt worry just yet. my little boy just did it one day. all babies are different when it comes to developing their 'motor skills' ( i think thats the name). try encouraging him with a toy or a treat of some sort. go a few steps away from him and he may go for it. i wouldnt worry though. the only thing i would do is , if you have a walker then take him out of it cos this can make them a bit lazy. hope he starts walking or crawling soon.

My son still wasn't even sitting up all that well at 9 months, didn't take his first step until he was 15 months old. Now there's no stopping him. My daughter on the other hand was scooting, crawling, rolling, slizzering, doing whatever she could to move.

Rest assured that it's completely normal. Enjoy this for as long as possible because once he realizes what he's been missing there's no looking back!!

Sorry for taking up so muh space, just wanted to add one more thing - One thing that helped my daughter with her strength and pulling up and all that was "Tummy Time" - Have you tried just laying a blanket on the floor and setting him on his belly for a little while everyday? Again, good luck!

First - What an adorable baby!! Second, I agree with the other moms - mine never crawled, she went straight to walking when she was almost a year old, but I have a friend with the smartest baby in the world who showed no interest in moving whatsoever until he was 14 months. To put your mind at ease, though, just bring it up at his one year wellness visit or whatever that's called, lol. Good luck!!

It's perfectly normal for a baby not to be crawling at 9 months! The average age is only 8 months, and some babies won't even crawl.. they'll go right to walking. If he's had no development problems then I wouldn't worry about it. But it's very common not to crawl at this age, or even pull himself up. My daughter crawled around 9/10 months and didn't pull herself up until 11/12 months, then walked at 13.

hi all babies are different. my son sat at 5 months but made no other effort to do anything until he started walking at 1 so never crawled. yet my daughter is ten months and is crawling climbing walking and everything. they will all do it in their own time their is no specific time they should be doing things within reason. just give him time i am sure he will get there!!!
