OH! I almost forgot.... make sure you're drinking enough water. When your body is properly hydrated, it is easier to get toxins and the such through your system. Being properly hydrated will also help to kick start your metabolism, so that you'll be able to burn calories faster and more efficiently.

Foods are VERY deceiving. And being a young mom doesn't exactly help in the nutrition area (we grab what's available, right?). I only gained 15 lbs with my daughter, but I have since dropped nearly 30 lbs (she's almost 10months old). Are you physically active? I walk every day - not far because I have problems with my lower back - but far enough that it takes me nearly an hour. I go to the post office, to the bank, stop at the coffee shop for a latte (non fat, of course.. hehe). And to be completely honest.... sex. Getting busy in bed is a sure fire way to burn some of those calories!

Hey! I gained 46 lbs during my pregnancy with my daughter. She's almost 11 months old and I've lost 43 lbs so far. I'm hoping to end up losing more then the original 46 lbs because I don't want as hard of a time with the weight on my next pregnancy. What I've done to lose the weight is, attend mommefit classes once a week, play in a soccer game once a week, and I use my elliptical in between. I also go for walks when I can. It's very hard work losing baby fat for most people (some women shed it no problem... arrrg!!! lol). All you need is motivation!!!

I have always struggled w/ my weight since I was in 5th grade. I had a very traumatic childhood so I also know now that I still emotional eat. The past 2 yrs, I lost weight. 1st, I power walked 30mins/day, no excuses. You can walk w/ your son in the stroller. I walked in my neighborhood even though the scenery isn't exciting. Also, I eventually got an ipod to use & loved it b/c it kept my mind busy. Comparing walking to running (like in a specific time frame of 30mins or 1 hr) - medically the amount of calories burned between the 2 is not a big difference as I was surprised to find out. I have old back & joint injuries, from a car wreck, where running causes pain so the power walking worked perfect. My power walking is w/ each step I gently squeeze my muscles. Other times, I just relax walk. 2nd, I do practice eating healthier foods now & do well most of the time. I eat half the size of my before portions on each meal. I try not to skip meals b/c then by the end of the day I want to eat like a horse. 3rd, for sugar cravings, my DR. recommended an amino acid supplement called L-Glutamine 1-3x/day. It comes in different mg (500,750,1,000mg capsules), start w/ the 500mg capsules 1-3x/day & see if that works or if you need to go up in mg or times/day. If possible take it at least twice a day, the 1st when you wake up & other between meals. If it works for you, the results will be apparent that day (no waiting period). Amino acids are naturally occurring in the brain & sometimes your brain lacks an amino acid like L-glutamine & therefore will cause intense sugar cravings. I love it! It has worked for me for the last 5 yrs. It's initial use was for muscle repair from working out but it's now found to be a factor of sugar cravings when the brain lacks it. It is OTC at any health food store or on the net & is relatively inexpensive. For more info about it, you can wikapedia it & google it. And as always don't be afraid to ask your dr.

I lost 65 lbs in 3 months by jump roping for about an hr a day while the kids were naping. and i ate 6 small meals a day. when you want a snack just grab an apple or banana. my husband has to be my support. when i get the craving to pig out on junk or eat more then i should he just reminds me that thats not what i really want.

Ive cut out the soda and am really doing well with the "no junk food"  issue.I'm a sucker for sweets.I never thought about a jump-rope. Thanks 4 the suggestion!!

Well I had the same problem with my first child! After I had him i just couldn't get those last 10lbs to leave. I found with my daughter I bounced back so fast! I walked everywhere with both of them in the stroller and drank lots of water and ate a lot of spinach (which is a natural laxative) which is not harmful at all. I also exercised with my kids, I would put my daughter on my knees and do sit ups and she would think it was a game which made it easy for me. Just take 1 hour out of your day and devote it to exercise either inside or outside. Do cardio one day and then go to another portion of your body the next day like abs and thighs. It really works! Well best of luck to you let me know how it go's!

I just went off my pill because it was messin with my head and now my hormones are crazier than they were before!!Oily hair, zitty face, fat belly. Am I 14 again??

LOL... oh, hormones. How I HATE thee... :)

I've been struggling with that same thing. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do regarding THAT except give it time to balance out again. Every person is different so it can take varying amounts of time. It really does suck, and I totally sympathize with you.

As for not being able to afford a gym or special diet plan - I'm with you on that one also. If you can get in at very minimum 30 minutes of cardio a day (this can be walking, gardening, chasing the little monkey around the yard, etc), drink at least 2 litres of water a day (sorry, I'm Canadian), and eat multiple smaller meals throughout the day, then the weight and skin complection will start to take care of themselves. And your smaller meals don't have to be anything fancy, by any means. Make up a bowl of fruit salad the night before and have some for breakfast with low-fat yogurt. Keep some finger-friendly veggies available for snacks (you can use reduced-calorie ranch dip if you want).

Losing weight doesn't have to be expensive or time consuming. It's all about perspective and balance. Try to keep your stress levels down (I KNOW that's difficult, so try to set aside some YOU-time every day to do something you enjoy). It might take a little bit longer than you'd hoped, but I'm sure you'll get those 20 lbs gone. And I'm sure you'll find some balance and do it properly (healthily). :-)

ps... I know I sound kinda cheesy in these replies, but that's my Kinesiology graduate in me coming out. ;-)

I lost 13kgs after having my daughter just by walking, playing around on wii fit (so much fun!!) and doing situps and pushups. I also cut out soft drink and tried to eat healthy, my fat intake was 30g per day and no more than 1400 calories...

I joined kickboxing and it is amazing cardio!! But if you can't afford a gym you probably can't afford to join a kickboxing class:( As for running, you could get a jogging stroller. I have one and it's really easy to run and push the stroller at the same time. Hills suck though:)

i just run around my subdivision, its not very scenic but its quiet time for me, i can see that it might be difficult if you dont have any sidewalks (a common problem over here in the US) my son wakes up at 6.30 i get him and put him in the bed to snuggle with daddy and the dogs, than i go running by myself, im only doing around 10mins right now, but i hope to build it up to 30mins eventually

If you have anytime for yourself, join a gym. I go 3 to 4 times a week and do an hour of cardio each time plus 15 to 20 minutes of strength training. I have also cut out soda (I was an addict!) and I try to eat lightly during the day and then I have however much I want at dinner time. If you do this you are sure to lose the pounds, I did!
