Well my sons almost 5 months and breast fed and lately showed signs of wanting to eat, and i know they say wait until 6 months until you introduce food, but i thought id try him and he opens his mouth wide and eats really well and happy when theres food.

how much should i give him a day ??

or should i really wait until his 6 months ??

i started feeding my son solids at 5 months because after a full bottle he was still asking for food and he was trying to take food out or our plates. I wanted to wait until he was 6 months old but his pediatrician told me to give him a bottle, wait an hour and then give him some solids. In the beginning he would eat only a spoon full but within a week he would eat the whole cube (I was making my own and freezing it in ice cube trays). Within 2 weeks he went from one meal to 3 meals a day as he was ALWAYS hungry it seems. Go with your gut.

I started feeding my baby girl when she was 5 months. i started off with a meal of the baby rice cereal then when she was fine with that i introduced other foods such as pureed carrots etc but i added it slowly to the rice cereal so she could get used to the taste. start off with 2 meals a day even if he doesnt each all of it.

it wont really hurt him to start solids now especially if he is showing interest in food. i would take it as a sign if i was you that he is telling you he is ready.

try to stay clear from pureed fruits for a while this is a huge mistake i did with my daughter she loved the sweet taste that she wouldnt eat any vegies.

good luck!

my son is 5 months and breastfed and also started showing signs ov wanting to eat from around 4 months, i give him baby rice in the morning (about 10 mouthfulls). ive since started to give him a rusk mixed with boiled water before his last feed aswell and he seems ok with it. my midwife ok'd it as long as he is eating it ok which he seems to. you know your baby better than anyone else and all babies are different so go with what you feel, your baby will let you know if he is happy or not.

Yes it is fine at 5 months to begin introducing food. Couple things to keep in mind:

1. Start slow (like many other moms suggested). Give them time to get used to how food feels in their mouth and learn how to move the food and swallow without spitting it back out.

2. Only introduce 1 food at a time to be sure there are no allergic reactions. Give only 1 food for at LEAST 2-3 days before adding in another food.

3. Start with vegetables first that way they get used to vegetables before you start bringing in the sweet fruits and stuff...meats are always last to introduce.

4. Continue with whatever you are doing now as well...for example. If he eats 6 oz at a time start him out with 2 oz of whatever you give (breastmilk or formula) then give him some of the baby food then top him off with more of the milk.

Hope this helps.

My little man is only 8 weeks and we have started him on rice cereal once a day. Milk just wasnt enough for him, he is just such an active baby. Although he only has about 1 tblsp he absolutely loves it and now we're finding he's sleeping 6 hours before waking for a feed. before he would be up every 2-3 hours. It just depends on your baby. Just make sure whatever you give him isnt too thick and he'll be fine. Good Luck!

I started giving my son solids at 4 months old. That's what it says on the stage 1 baby food.

Maybe try a half a jar at first and if he seems still hunger, give him the rest. I think you should feed him whenever you feel comfortable with it. The food really does make them more full than just the bottle of formula.

my pediatrician says its ok to try to start feeding at 4 months if the child seems ready. You just have to be careful about allergies, so start with rice cereal and do that for a week. if he doesn't show signs of allergy then add baby oatmeal cereal for a week. and so forth. I was told not to do whole wheat cereals till after 6 months though. but you are totally fine to start at four especially if the baby seems ready. then add veggies, then fruits and so on. Just make sure you are adding these things in addition to the breastmilk... not instead of.

i started vegetables at 4 months, a couple of bites is all i could get him to get but do not start fruits due to the sweet they wont want veggies. they wont take more than a small jar a day but just try and see what he wants. its hard to say exactly how much to give, always start with a little and see how much they want. when they get bigger replace 2 milk feedings with food. you'll know how much is enough.

I feel every child is different. 6 months is more a guide line then a set rule. if your child is acting like they need or are ready for food then why not let him try it? Mine started with rice cereal when she was 3 months old. ( formula just wasn't cutting it) then fruits and veggies at around 5-6 months.

It all depends on your baby and how you feel. My boy is four months and i have started him, as everytime we ate he would open his mouth when i put anything near mine. He loves food. Also one day he was upset and just didnt want milk, so i gave him some food and he was settled.
They say you can introduce from 4months! i only give him food at dinner time about 5pm.

My friend also got told by her pedi to start her boy as he had signs of wanting to eat.
Trust ur baby and urself!

My son was my first and I waited until he was six months but that's when he seemed ready. My first daughter I gave her cereal at eight weeks. She was hungry all the time. I still wait til she was about six months before I gave her real food My parents might have gave her food before then when they would babysit. But I din't regularly til six months. My second daughter just turned four months and I started giving her cereal at three months because she was always hungry too. The about a week ago I started giving her friuts and veggie. I got the baby food from the natueal section its called earth's best and it says you can give them it at four months. My four month old daughter gets really mad when she sees everyone eating reall food so I though I would try it. So far so good. Doctors tell you to wait because they say the babies digestive system can't handle the friuts and veggies. I think it just depends on the child and if your child is opening his mouth like he wants to eat I think he ready. I f you still aren't sure ask his doctor what he/she thinks. Good Luck!

If your son is showing signs of being ready for solids I'd start him on them but make sure you speak to a doctor first. They say to wait until they're 6months old as that's around when their digestive system is developed enough to handle more than milk.
My son started solids at 4months (he was showing signs of wanting food at around 10weeks!), but that was on the advice of our pediatrician due to severe reflux.

My sons pediatrition said to start with infant cereal. You can mix breastmilk with it. I started my son when he was actually 4 months old. He was always so hungry. His dr said it was ok. My daughter on the other hand is 6 months old now and wont touch it... But back to the topic. If u start with baby cereal, after that they say to introduce veggies one kind a week (to watch for alergies) before u introduce fruit.

Your baby knows when he's ready

Hope this helps

MY doctor told me at three months to start feeding my son if he was hungry. And they used to start feeding babies rice cereal when they were three weeks old.
MY son loved his food from 3 months and he is a happy little man now. eating well and he started sleeping better too.

I was instructed to breast feed him and then top him up with food and let him eat what he wanted.

And then at six months do it the other way round top him up with milk.
the foods in shops are made safe from four months. Farex is great to start them on but MY wee man wouldnt eat the plain stuff so got the banana and pear which is actually smoother

my son who is now 10 yrs old was breast fed until he was 13 mths. i started feeding him "food" at 2 mths old.
my oldest daughter is almost 3. she was a bottle baby. she wouldnt eat regular food until she was 6 months old.
my youngest daughter is 10 1/2 mths old and also bottle fed. she just has started eating when she was 8-9 months old.
use your mom instincts. you know when your baby is ready and how much to give. not your doctor.

I would contact your childs Dr. and see what he/she thinks. But every child is different. The 6month thing is a guidline and babies could be ready before or after that age. And if you do try to feed him, I would start out with one "solid" meal a day until he gets used to the texture, etc. Also, do not try more then one food every 3 days. Within the 3 days, you will be able to accuratly tell if he is allergic etc with that exact food. Happy eattings! Good luck!

I started feeding my daughter baby food when she was almost 5 months. It got to the point where a bottle just wasn't keeping her full. The step 1 foods (they're probably about 2 1/2 or 3 oz) did the trick until she was ready for more.

They say between 4 - 6 months is okay. So you are doing great. You saw signs that your child needed more then milk and you cattered to his needs. Give him as much as he wants. But be sure to give him his milk first and slowly started introducing more and more foods. Remember that when you introduce a new food wait 2 weeks before giving a new one because if he gets an allergic reaction then you know what cased it.
Good luck!

just baby cereal and then some pureed vegies/fruit

they really dont eat much at the start like a cupple of teaspoons

its just as much about learning about how to eat as well

its up to you if he seems ready

My daughter did that at 3.5 months, we started her on food and she is fine. We just mixed a tsp of rice cereal with like 3-4 tsp of breast milk and worked from there.

Me personally like the other moms have said you know your son better then anyone! Do what you feel! I have 2 girls and never have i listened to anything the dr or statistics have said! Both of my girls were breastfeed for the first 3 months. I started introducing the baby rice cereal at 1 month due to them only sleeping 30min to an hour between feedings! I only did that at night in an infant feeder! then by 4 months they were eating out of a spoon baby food fruits and vegies! Neather one of my girls had a problem with the food. Now the only thing i can say my daughter had a problem with is switching from formula to whole milk! Keep up the good work and do what you feel is right for your baby! All the drs are telling you the advice from what they have read from resurch and other babies! Every baby is different and has different needs! Good luck!

Hey
I have fed my son solids (if you can call mushy baby food that) since he was four months old because he wanted to eat. I think it depends all on your child - it used to be four months. The important thing to remmeber is to introduce one food at a time to establish if there are any allergies etc. beaware of eggs and nuts are a BIG no no.

if he will eat it feed it to him for every meal. it isnt a bad thing if you start a month early, it isnt going to hurt him or anything. if he is willing to eat it all of the time feed him the food at every meal you have and then he feels like he is involved in your dinner. my son loved sitting at the table and eating with us.
