I am married and my husband has a 12yr old daughter and we have a 5yr old son(he will be 6 next week) and I am at a loss! I am a stay at home mom and over the last 6 months my son has become very rude and disrespectful. I know that some of it comes with age but I NEVER had this when my step-daughter was this age! I am going crazy. I feel like I am such a bad mom because I feel like all I do is yell at him, talk to him, or give him consequences. My husband and step daughter reassure me everyday that I am a good mom but I can't help but to feel horrible! I cry every night and I am not sure what else to do. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have the same problem with my daughter right now she is 6. I can tell some of it she gets from playing with other children who behave badly. My daughter copies other children's behavior. Could that be it? I find time outs to think about the behavior works best and after the time out I ask her why I put her in time out and how she can behave better. After that I give her a big hug and tell her I love her! When she doesn't get enough sleep she behaves like that too. Could be an attention getter too. You are not a bad mom. I think every mom goes through something like this sooner or later. Good luck

I know how u feel! I think counseling may help to get to the root of his problem. Try to really focusing on praising his behavior when it is good, more so than yelling at him for the bad. And a key word...patience, patience, patience! My son and I are going to counseling, it is nice to know u are not going through it alone! I hope things get better, your situation sounds alot like mine. Let him know u love him no matter what. He may just be craving some attention. Hang in there, at least u care enough to ask for help.
