I need tips/tricks to getting my child to sleep threw the night. Any suggestions?

My son is almost 4 months old. He does sleep really well at night with only getting up at 4 am. Then he will go back to sleep until 6-7 and then he likes to be up. I was wondering what you ladies have tried that has worked for you to get your child to sleep all threw the night? Or am I just going to have to chalk this up as me not getting a good nights sleep? Thanks!

"sleeping through the night" is defined as a 6 hour stretch without waking to eat. Sounds like your little guy is already doing that. I don't think you can expect a 4 month old to go 12 hours or so without waking or eating. I think my son was still waking every 2-3 hours at that age. The best thing you can do to encourage it is to have a good, calming bedtime routine - book, bath, massage, white noise machine, swaddling, whatever - to signal to baby that it is time to sleep. Keep things calm and quiet if he wakes in the middle of the night, too. Eventually, he will learn to soothe himself back to sleep (not much you can do to teach that) but I wouldn't expect that until he's at least 6 months old.

Your doing pretty well to be getting up to him just once at 4 months! Keep a good night time routine and make night feeds as boring as possible for him - no talking and dim lights and he will sleep through when he is ready.
