Quoting Carly:

Labour starts because of a hormone that is released from the baby's brain and is picked up by your body, causing your uterus to start contracting. The baby's brain does not release this hormone until the baby's body has completely finished developing and it is at peak fitness to make it through delivery and out into the eagerly waiting world. The last thing to fully develop in a baby is it's lungs. A baby born with underdeveloped lungs is at risk of a number of respiratory illnesses.

With that in mind, are you sure you really "need to bring on labour"?

I do understand this, However I know what it's like to be overdue and have a projected 10 lb. baby inside you. When you're past your 40 weeks it's not a bad thing to think about inducing your labor.

Well the best way is walking and sex, just be sure to drink alot of water. Also there are some pressure points that supposedly help.

Sex did it for me. We had sex every night starting three weeks before I was due. I went into labor the night before my due date.

I tried everything and nothing helped me. My doctor ended up just inducing me 7 days early because She was ready but I wasnt. Sex helps but not much. Walking doesnt help as much as people say it does. Good luck though

sex... lots of it, as much as your pregnant body can handle! First babies are always hard, but the semen softens the cervix which helps. If your body can handle it stay active as much as you can! I worked all the way up until my doctor made me quit! And that was only because I was high risk for pre eclampsia

Castor Oil! I know it is totally feral... but it works 100%! You are supposed to only have 2 teaspoons but I got confused and had 2 tablespoons at about 9am and by 5pm I was in full labour!
It tastes really disgusting but I mixed it in a glass of orange juice and skulled it and wasnt too bad.
Good luck babe! :)

Tried 'em all. None worked. Was so happy in the end though because I labored on and off for 3 days and had the baby in a short amount of time with no meds and no problem. I have come to believe that if you try to make the baby come before it is ready it results in difficulties. My friends have had their membranes scraped, this thins out the membranes that are holding back your water. In all of their experiences, it did what it was supposed to do, in that their water broke, but their babies weren't ready so 2 ended up laboring for a long time and then having c sections, and the other one labored for 20 hours and finally had the baby but it had to be put on antibiotics and she had a really high temp! I would say the best bet is to let it go naturally because then you can avoid any unnecessary complications!

the baby will not come until he/she is ready. some people swear by sex, long walks, castor oil, etc. ..... dont rush your little one out. he/she is not ready to enter the world until your water breaks or you start having contractions.... nothing truly "works" it just so happens that when a mom tried a certain thing they went into labor.... their baby was ready and they didnt know it. hang in there. i know its tough- i went into labor 3 days early.. yes i wanted it to be sooner but my daughter wasnt ready so i wasnt going to rush her!

Start pumping.. Nipple stimulation.. That all makes the uterus start contracting.. Are you close to your due date? Do go hog wild with the pump just do if for a couple minutes on each side.. You can also get a foot massage, there are nerves in your feet that can make you start contracting! I had a good foot massage and 10 hours later my water broke granted i was a month early.. The lady who did my massage and clipped my nails didn't know about those Sweet spots! Good Luck!

Eat fresh watermelon and fresh pineapple and drink pineapple juice... most of all, drink TONS of water and take a brisk walk... I swear it was eating half a watermelon and a whole pineapple by myself and drinking tons of water and walking that brought on labor and my son was born exactly on his due date after all :)

I was two days over due with my second son and I HAD to go into labor because i couldn't be induced after my first baby was born via c-section. We tried sex, walking, spicy food it made the BH contractions worse but that was. So on a tuesday night I went to my regular water aerobics class, 45 minutes of high intensity fitness, great for when you are pregnant BTW, and by the end of that class I realized, my contractions were 8 minutes apart!! My second son was born the following night. This wa smy second child but my first time going into labor, I was inducewd the first time so I stand by it!!

I know waiting is hard. I have been through two babies myself. But I wanted to let you know that babies come when they want. and Dr. can't predict the exact date. Your baby may need that extra time. And if your Dr. feels that it should be sooner he will induce you. Please be patient.

I tried everything from the hot curries to the sex to hold and cold showers ect ect, my sister and I were due on the same day my sister was 8 days overdue when she had lolly. I went to see her in hospital and gave my beautiful little niece lots of cuddles and kisses as one of the midwives said that this could induce labour. Low and behold walking out in the carpark and the contractions started! I dont know wether it as lolly who got the ball rolling or my little sophie was just ready to come :) good luck

[deleted account]

my midwife told me that pinching your nipples releases an hormone that can help bring on labour!! i'm not sure though as i've never tried it, good luck

I didn't try to induce with my first. However with my daughter I was so uncomfortable I couldn't wait to get her out. I tried sex, walking, and hot baths. I'm not sure if any of it really helped. I had her on her due date. I was having contractions around midnight. There where about 8 minutes apart. My doc told me when they were 5 minutes apart then I could go to the hospital. Well about 6 am they went right to 2 minutes. By the time I got my boyfriend up and dropped my son off It was almost 8 am and I had her at 8:43 am. They told me that if I waited any longer I could have had her in my car. So maybe that stuff help maybe it didn't I having baby number three so I will test again.

CASTOR OIL! It won't harm your baby at all! Mix about 2 tablespoons with half a glass of OJ and drink it. It doesn't have much of a taste. I had about 3 false alarms with my daughter and tried everything. I had had enough so I tried castor oil. I did it and an hour later, when to the hopital, was admitted and my daughter was born the next morning. Good luck!

Awww. I have been there hunny. Nothing worse then being tired,cranky,uncomfortable...and sooo done with being pregnant. The only thing that helped me was walking. Walking, walking, and more walking.I took a walk in the morning, a walk in the afternoon, a walk every chance I got.

A nice warm bath. Warmth helps produce oxytocin, the original stimulant that brings on labor. Lay warm blankets over your chest, that helped me!

I'm wondering why you feel you need to bring on labour? Baby will let ya know when he/she is ready:) Sucks for the pregnant mom who's at her 40 week mark and eager, I empathise! I was lucky though and had him 2 days after my "due date."

I tried everyting, Walking, Hot curries, pineapple, raspberry leaf tea sex you name it i tried it but i ended up going 13 days overdue and was induced, however i was pretty luck as i was only in labour for 2 hours but i think the baby will come when its ready. Its worth trying things though to pass some time while you wait. Good luck

Yeah I know a girl who just had a baby about a month ago, she was 15 days past due and went into labor and it was her first, it only took her 3-4 hrs and everything went great and she said it was an "easy" labor, how many first timers say that?

WALKING

up and down stairs, around the block, while pushing a cart or something, walk as far and as fast as your waddle will take you!

PINEAPPLE

something in the juice can help stimulate the production of oxitosin. = labour!

Spicy Food!

Castor Oil (drank in some orange juice or grapefruit juice) I suggest 5-10 tbsps

Sex (of course)

A few hours of nipple stimuation (if you have that kind of time) also increases production of oxitosin.

People will tell you to swallow a teaspoon of oil..Please dont listen!! LOL All that does is make you wanna be violently ill. LOL Sex is actually a very good way to bring labor on as it stimulates your uterus and makes it contract...I also did A LOT of walking everyday, and that seemed to get things moving quite well. Just be careful not to overdue it.

as long as you are term, try castor oil, two to three table spoons (it will clean you out like an enema) works like a charm, when i got to hospital i was already 4cm!!! (Our midwives swear by it too!!!
