i stoped nursing gradually.i started when she was 11 months because i knew i wanted her to b completly broke from nursing by 15 months.so i only nursed her 3 times a day in the morning when she first woke up,before her afternoon nap,and before bed for the first month then i started pumping and putting my breastmilk in her sippy cup and by time she was 13 months she preferred the sippy cup. i felt worse then she did.

This may sound harsh, but my daughter was so atached to me..I sent her to her aunt & uncle's house for a weekend. During the weekend she only got whole milk in a cup, and I was pumping only enough to relieve pressure-NEVER more than it takes to get comfortable! After she returned home I continued giving her milk in a cup and pumped where she couldn't see/smell me. She never looked back!!

Thanks Ladies, I have started introducing more solids and it's getting easier he rarely even nurses at night anymore just about twice during the day and early in the am. I think we'll be done by August maybe even mid July!

Quoting DANIELA:

when i was little i would not stop wanting the boob so mum put pepper on her nipples and when she breast fed me aparently it put me of from wanting the boob so thats the only advise i can provably give u !!

I actually thought about that this morning and said it jokingly to my husband thanks I think i'll go thru with the idea!

Nursing for another year is not an option for me. By august he will be13mos old and done nursing the easy way or the hard way.  I suggest you go buy some cabbage and an ACE bandage so that you can dry up for yours and your baby's sake.

Slow it down introduce watered down cows milk, it takes time at least a couple of months i started at 8 months and he was weaned by 11, milk dried up and then he had no choice.

just be firm - only boob at night then cut that out after a couple of weeks - go straight to sippy cup not bottle. Wear a tight bra that will help stop your milk.

what i did was stop feeds during the day and only feed at night. it is harder for the mum then it is for the baby. u can get bottle that look more like a breast, my little girl took to them really well

I would suggest that you quit the feeds one by one and offer a solid alternative instead. If you quit cold turkey then you might be a lot of pain as your boobs get used to not feeding. If your babe is still feeding through the night then try to offer an alternative drink instead.

Try eliminating nursing sessions that are the least important, so to speak. Once you are down to nursing only once or twice a day quit cold turkey. If the nursing is for comfort more than hunger try introducing a "lovey" and you may find that after a few weeks your little one will not want to nurse any longer.
