that is a stage to not listen but with my daughter it ended up being different. we didnt realize until i put her in preschool that she couldnt hear(she ended up needin tubes) and thats why i had a hard time making her listen. Just make sure that they get their hearing checked by the doctor to make sure that that can be ruled out. now she gets special help to catch her up with the rest of the kids so shes doin just fine.

I do time out for my daughter it is either for her to sit in her bed and do nothing or on the wall with her hands up for 3-5 minutes it works for her. When all else fails I swat her little butt but not hard just enough to get her attention

Reward them when they do what you ask. My almost 2 year old loves it when we clap for him. He helps me and that makes him fell good that I am happy. Also get down to their level. Look them in the eye and talk to them. If they still don't listen then do it with them and make it fun. I have been in Child care for 13 years and one of these have always worked. Be consistant!!!! I hope I helped. Thea

I think all children go through that phase! My 2 year old likes to pretend she is busy when I ask her to do things, but I am consistent and I don't repeat myself more than twice...than its off to the wall for a time-out!
It will be tough some days more than others, but stay strong you can do it!

It depends on what he/she is not listening to... depending on what they are not listening to you could 1) ignore them ~ sometimes kids don't do what they are told because they see the punishment as a type of attention 2) change the way you tell him/her ~ make sure you are at their eye level and use a controled, deep voice when speaking to the child
