I am 23 years old with a 12 year old step daughter. We have always had a very good, open relationship and I'm pretty sure she feels comfortable talking to me about things. .. or I was until a few weeks ago. Her attitude is completely out of control, she tantrums like a 3 year old,she lashes out at everything and is completely unreasonable. She is not close with her mother (who has custody) but all I find myself bathing a sigh of relief and crying from frustration after dropping her off at her mother's. I have no idea what to do,or how to get through to her. I'm always very patient but it gets harder by the day. I also have two step sons and her behaviour is detrimental to our time as a family. What do I do? And when will this pass? How do I let her know that I'm here for her without her feeling like I'm invading in her life?

How do you know she is not close to her mother? Is this her words? Or what you have observed? Let's face it. You are only 11 years older than her. Chances are she is viewing you more as a friend than a person in authority. You are not her mother, and if you are trying to be her mother, then she is reacting to that. Her father needs to step in. What is HE doing about this behaviour?
