The rice cereals are so processed they have almost no nutritional value so they're just fillers and should be treated as such. The sources I've spoken to/read say that if you must introduce solid foods to your LO before 6 months of age, you should introduce them to first stage baby foods (pureed fruits and veggies) one at a time (one single fruit or vegetable every 2-3 days) and only about 2 servings a day, to ensure if your LO does have any kind of reaction, you can be sure what caused it. Until your baby is at least 1 year old, their primary diet should still be milk/formula. If you feel the need to give your LO cereal, mix it with breast milk/formula, not water. They will get the nutrition they will need that way. Have you considered pumping more often to store a supply and freeze for somebody else to feed to your LO while you are at work? Even supplementing your breast milk with formula while you're away is better than supplementing with cereal.

There's plenty of water in fruits, vegetables, breast milk and formula so you shouldn't feel the need to give them any water between meals unless it's hotter weather or your baby is dehydrated. Also, hispanic is a very broad term and please keep in mind that another reason most doctors recommend not giving baby solid foods before 6 months of age is because studies have shown that babies that start in solids so young are more prone to childhood obesity and bad eating habits. The Mexican obesity rate is on the rise. Not sure if when saying hispanic she was referring to Mexican, Portuguese, etc. Just keep these things in mind, please.

They recommend waiting until 6months of age because of chocking hazards and having the ability to digest solids properly. The main cause of concern is feeding solids to early can possibly lead to allergies with certain foods further down the road. It would be more beneficial to wit 1 more month and try the cereal but use breast milk and make it a watery consistency. Always try 1 new food at time. This is incase bub has a allergic reaction, then you will know the food that has caused that. I used baby bullet with my daughter, it had lot recipe's and was very helpful with instructions on how to store food, the consistency it should be and what ago to feed certain foods. hope this helps :)
