Introducing Whole Milk

[deleted account] ( 6 moms have responded )

My daughter is struggling with milk. We have been mixing it with formula and when we got to half and half it started making her gassy cranky and sick. However, she does fine with yogurt and cheese. She also has started to refuse milk all together and it is hard to give her formula until she realizes that it IS formula and then takes it. I just want to make sure that she is getting everything she needs. We go to the doctor tomorrow so I will see what he says. Any suggestions on how to get her to drink milk and what milk products might be better for her stomach.

You can also try the stage 2 formula made for older infants. It has the nutrients that toddlers need that milk can't provide. It sounds like she may be lactose intolerant. Ask her doctor what other types of milk that you can give her that won't be harsh on her little stomach. It's good that she can eat cheese and yogurt.

When I was starting my son on milk he couldn't keep it down cause he had reflus so I mixed his formula (Enfamil AR) with the mik and it wirked great. My mother in law told me if that wouldn't work to try soy milk but i never had to try int cause the mixing worked

Kefir (whole foods store or possibly dairy section of the grocery) is good for the digestive system and immune system. It should digest like yogurt. I think it is fine to continue formula for a couple of months if milk is hurting her.

Quoting Jamie:

If its making her sick she may be mildly lactose intolerent. Thats how my daughter is, she can eat cheese and yougurt but give her a glass of milk and she has runny poop and complains her tummy hurts.

Both of my kids area exactly like this.
