I was told by my doctor that water doesn't add any nutritional value...and just goes right through them..So he doesnt need it

there is nothing wrong with giving baby water, as long as it has been boiled and cooled,

some bottle feed babies need it.

if breastfeed then they shouldnt need it, provded your diet is good

No, my doctor says that giving your baby water can throw off their electrolyte balance, he should only be getting formula or breast milk right now.

My daughter was born late December, as we live in Australia it gets very hot from mid January until March. On really hot days we would give our daughter some water (no more than 40mls) a few times a day as well as her milk feeds. We spoke to the Maternal Health Nurse about it, she didn't specify any problems with giving her water, just not to replace her feeds with water. After the heat went we found we didn't need to give her water until she started her solids.

I would seriously check with a pediatrician, but generally I would stay away from it...long story short it could potentially cause some unfortunate long term effects for your son if not authorized by a doctor (mainly to his kidneys).

Hope if there is a problem it has passed :)
