I have just found out my daughter of 9 yrs old has hair under her arms. It's not that light fuzzy hair that u really can't c it's a patch of black hair. I would like to know if it is to early to teach her how to shave. I say this cause no matter how much she washes under her arms there is still an odor. I could really use some advice on this situation please.

Both of my sister in law's started shaving when they were 9 years old. I don't think it's too early to start shaving, and the odor could simply be because she is going threw puberty and needs deoderant. there is nothing wrong with having your 9 year old shave and use deoderant

if she has a problem with the hair, teach her to shave. thats when i started shaving. maybe 8?

Have you tried deodorant for the odor? If so then I guess teach her to shave.

I think that her body is ready so now its up to you to make sure she is mentally ready, then teach her to shave and get her some teen spirit! Otherwise gym class and tank top weather could be embarresing for her!

It sounds like she might be hitting puberty a little early. Some girls hit puberty faster than others, so if it were me, I would probably go ahead and let her start shaving and putting on deoderant. Good luck:)

Rebecca- the whole period at 8 thing as a mother of 2 girls kinda freaks me out!!! Anyway i would say teach her how to shave. If you are concerned about the safety factor i would tell her when its time to shave you need to be in the bathroom with her just so you know she is ok.

If she has real underarm hair at that age I think you should let her shave, kids get enough flak just for being themselves and this opens her to criticism and teasing from other girls who arent as pyschically mature

SHAVE IT!! i was one of those girls that was teased and still to this day i remember it. i had VERY harry legs and my parents wouldn't let me shave. Everyday in gym class all the girls would tease me and tell all the boys about it. Dont put your daughter through that let her shave IF that's what SHE wants. if she hasn't said anything about it than i wouldn't either.

as we all know chidren seem to grow alot faster these days girls have breast now at 11. it seems too young but the fact is it has to be done my friends daughter is 8and a half and has started her period already these girls are growing much faster than we did i think you shoul show her start off with only letting her do it when your in the room for a while until you are comfortable enough that she is doing a good job no one wants their babies to grow up it just happens to fast but the fact is it will probally save your sweetie embarassment for instance in gym or a class where it may be noticable to others kids are mean nowa days

If she needs to shave( and it sounds like she does ) go ahead and teach her.

Contray to the belief that having underarm hair makes oyu sweat/smell more it doesn't. however, I do think to save embarassment for your daughter it is probably time to teach her to shave.

Thanks Nicolene. I had been thinking the same cause she is already using degree for it for a little while now so I was just wondering. We don't need any problems @ school cause of this.

i think you should teach her to shave. it can become very embarresing for her at school etc. i don't think there should be an age to this... hope this helps
