after my last son i heomorraged, it was really scarey, i can remember a midwife pushing down so hard on my stomach, i was in agony, and they were like just use the gas and air darling, my god it made me cry, i wonder if this has anything to do with me having post natal depression now

With the birth of my son (2nd child) I had a HUGE Hemorrhage about 2 hrs. afterwards. I lost 4 times the amount of blood as a normal vag delivery. I was on IV's for the next 24 hr. with blood, platlets, and other stuff being pumped into me. I swelled up everywhere. Had I not be at the hospital, I would have died before an ambulance had gotten to my house and brought me back to the hospital ( which is only about an 8 min. drive). I was the worst hemorrhage my OB had ever seen. When I was feeling a little better my doc said that Carson (my son) was just to big for my uterus to handle. He was 9 lb, 1 oz. he stretched it so much that it was tired and could not contract back down to stop the bleeding ( I don't remember the tech. term.) I was an emotional wreck for weeks/months after that. I was seriously considering to be sewn shut. I never want to go through that again, it was absolutely horrible. Currently we have two children, always thought that we would have about 4, still thinking about it. After my first was born I was put back in the hospital for Endometriosis, after two back experiences I'm not really sure that 3 or 4 is a good idea for us.

I bled heavily past 6 weeks. My doctor wanted to put me on the pill, but I knew something was not right. So I admitted myself in the ER and ended up having a DNC. They remove little pieces of the placenta that are left. It is very important to make sure it is completely gone b/c it can cause infection. This is one reason for heavy bleeding afterward.

With my first I lost 2 pints after birth and had to have a blood transfusion. This was because the consultants didn't realise I had teared a little until the day after. This was 3rd Aril 08 and I bled for a further 4 weeks on and off but the doctor said it was normal.

I have 4 children, with the 1st I bled heavily for 6 weeks, with the 2nd I was bleeding so heavily it took three people to get undies and a pad on me without it all running all down my legs I was still bleeding like that an hour and a half after the birth when they wheeled me out the hospital on plastic sheets and handed me one to cover the seat of the car with- apparently they had no beds for me (I'm happy to say the midwife I had at the time is no longer working in NZ) anyhow I bled like that for four weeks and then became depressed (looking back I think al that blood loss which would have made me very low in iron, would have hit the first domino in the spiral I fell into after that). I was never checked out properly after I was sent home just a quick baby check and feel of my abdomen. ANYHOW I recovered a year and a half later and am happy to report that with babies three and then four I had almost NO bleeding and the tiny amount of bleeding I did have was gone within a couple of days after the birth - I was so shocked that, that was all I got after my previous experiences and with such quick healing after the births it was so lovely to be able to bond with my babies without the stress of all that bleeding not to mention how tired bleeding makes you.
SO, theres every chance that your next birth experience will be a totally different experience dont let one bad time put you off another if thats what you want. All the best.

i just had my 2nd son last sunday and i had a heavy bleed afterwards. they were talking about a blood transfusion but thankfully it never got to that point where i needed one. they didnt tell mehow much i lost but at one point the nurse freaked out because i had lost a huge blood clot. she pulled the ringer out of the wall, 3 nurses and 2 doctors came running in. they took the baby away because my bf had gone home to get a few things. the dr had to go up inside ofme while a nurse pushed extremely hard on my stomach and he pulled out a ton of blood clots. it was def one of the worst experiences of my life. my entire body was shaking so badly because i was in shock. the nurse ended up giving me an adavan to calm my nerves. i also have a blood disorder where i need to be on blood thinners after a pregnancy for 6 wks because i am at a higher risk of developing a blood clot. my dr was a little worried about starting me on it because he wasnt sure what it would do. so far everything is fine and we'll hope it stays that way!

They should have to lol. I however, probably wouldn't trade the fact that I get to carry and care for a baby for nine months. It is a wonderful thing to be able to do it. I feel lucky everyday and it amazes me that womans bodies carry these little humans inside them.
